How do I repair the E74 error on the xbox 360

E74 - This error is caused by a cold solder joint under the GPU, (H)ANA-chip or in between. Mostly it is one of the outer solder balls on the side facing the (H)ANA chip so a shim increases the chanced of success quite a bit. Can also be a component that is missing or damaged so look for missing parts near the GPU and the (H)ANA chip. Xbox 360 Error Codes Explained and How to Fix Them

I resently got new screws and washers and cleaned up the CPU and GPU and put new thermal paste on them. I put my xbox 360 back together and turn the power on and it works for like maybe 2 minutes then just...

2 red lights denotes a heating issue. The CPU or GPU could be getting too hot. Another issue could be that the heat sinks are not making good enough contact with the CPU/GPU. Since you said you put washers onto the xbox, try tightening the screws a half turn each, and see if that solves it. If it doesn't, you may need to reapply the thermal paste and try again.

I have one red light flashing on my xbox 360. how can i fix it?

If you have a hard drive, clearing the cache might resolve the one red light error. Also, you can try to remove the hard drive and power on the Xbox 360 Console without the hard drive to see if the red light will still occur. If it doesn't appear it is the hard drive causing the error and needs replacement, if it does flash the red light still, it is a hardware failure in your Xbox already.

Whats wrong with my xbox?

The x-clamp or repair kits, are quite efficient And effective.
But the actual Torque/Tightness of the Bolts Are very Important.
Usually when a 360 Overheats, with the original X-Clamps fitted. The motherboard Warps. The method is to :- repair the cpu/gpu heatsinks, apply a small amount of thermal Compound, And gently pinch-Tight the bolts. Then Run the xbox without the Fan Connected for a few Minutes to heat-up the Motherboard. then clamp the bolts a little tighter. these can be awkward, but with trial and error are usually repairable.
Also to be noted, are the older style heatsinks ( without Copper heat-Pipe ) are not as efficient as the newer or revised version.

I have 3 red lights with no noice from console

The towel trick should work if not you would need to replace the motherboard as the sensors have gone out in it, the sensors trigger the fans in this regard, I along with you have done this with 300 xbox 360 notice the microsoft next to my name. I am not looking for fame or glory but a solution for you if you tried the copper penny trick also then I would be looking at the motherboard as the issue.

2 Red Lights Xbox 360

You need to change the thermal compound. But if you have make sure you have 1 WASHER ABOVE THE MOTHERBOARD! 2 washers above are too many. try that and let me know how you got on

I had this exact issue 2 washers make the heatsink sit off the GPU Die. 1 allows it to touch the GPU DIE

Xbox 360

2 red lights is a over heating issue. As for fixing, if you don't want to take apart the 360 you will have to send it back to microsoft. If you're okay with taking it apart, replace the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU with Arctic Silver, and then comes the tricky part. The small black screws that are on the bottom of the frame take some fine tuning, usually you leave them fairly loose or not even put them back in at all, only once have I come acrossed where I had to bolt them down as tight as I could get them. You may want to leave the case off until you have finished finding the proper configuration.
