Does this mower have a manual or power belt engagement? Sounds like it has electric, check to make sure the connections on the electromagnetic switch that engages the blades are snug and free of corrosion. There may be a fuse block incorporated in the system. Check for blown fuses. If you have a test light, test for power on both sides of the blade engagement switch while switching on and off. You should get power on both sides of switch if the switch is working. If not the switch is bad. You can jump the terminals of the switch to see if blades engage. But be carful, make sure anyone helping has their feet clear of the machine if you try this. If this doesn't help give me the Model, year, series H.P. etc.

Stalls when mower deck is engaged

Try turning your blades by hand & feel for binding. Inspect the underside of your deck & look for wire, rope, or twine wrapped around the blade spindles. A piece of wood can get wedged between a blade and the deck. Check the pulley shields for grass & debris.

If everything is clear, then clean your carburetor's air filter & clean the float & needle valve/seat; your carburetor may not be getting enough gas.

My 5hp briggs motor gets hot an stops running

Check the oil level in the engine. If you are mowing high grass and weeds, that will over-stress the engine. Make sure the engine is cleaned of debris and grass cuttings, especially around the engine cylinder.

Welger ap 53 baler

My guess is that there is some kind of bind that the twine is in between the spool of twine and the knotter... resulting in the twine being continuously too tight for proper tying. Check for restrictions and then make double sure you've cleaned out ALL of the bunched up twine and twine ends... Are you using the correct twine??

I have a homelite gas powered string trimmer that does not turn the head when running. what do I do?

3b5f022c-a04d-43e0-9dc1-e67db05c3d82.gifHello Joseph,
This can be a little tricky, but it can be done. First check for obstructions around spindle where string comes out. Check for twine, grass, trimmer line or debris wrapped around bottom end keeping it from turning. If there is nothing there check to see if you can gently turn it by hand, to see if its seized. You may have to disassemble the bottom end of unit from the engine. If you disassemble bottom end you will be able to tell if the problem is in the bottom end or not. Some models have whats called a drive connector which is a metal piece that connects the pto shaft from engine to the shaft that goes to spindle end. Drive connector is number 31 in this diagram. If you post actual model and serial number from tag of unit I can post accurate pics to help. Let me know if you have more questions, good luck!

Went out to cut grass and the blades will not engage and when I put it in gear it does not move. Belts are intact. I cleaned the deck of dirt and grass. Still nothing. Just replaced the cable to engage the blades last year. Cable seems to be working.

What type of replacement twine do I need to buy for the Poulan PL25? I can't find it at Wal-Mart or Lowe's

Hi, Don't buy too thin a twine or you will be running to the store more often. .095m is the largest you can buy. Most lawn and garden centers and hardware stores have them. Good luck.

Runs ok when you turn the deck on it looses power it goes reel slow

Hi,
I don't know what mower you have. There is a push mower icon beside your problem but you mentioned "deck" so I'll assume it's a rider.
If your engine does fine until engaging the mower deck, I would suspect you have an issue with the deck itself.
Not running and disengaged, do an inspection of your deck. See if the pulleys rotate easily... if no, look under the deck and see if there is any obstruction such as grass clipping build-up (usually from cutting wet grass)... or if there is wire or twine wrapped around the blade shafts.
If the underside looks clear, there may be a spindle bearing issue. You may have to remove the belt to identify which bearing.
I hope this helps... Good luck!

Engine only runs at low idle and smokes

Hi,
So now, without the blades engaged, it smokes and then dies?
In your first description it sounded like the engine was under a strain. Overfilling with oil could produce a strain, but since it ran ok until you said you engaged the blades, I would have to ask if the blades themselves, were causing the strain. Sometimes if you cut wet grass, the clippings stick to your underside of the deck and can really build up. Also some rope, wire or twine would around the spindles could creat one. Check this out...
Now, with the "smoke" issue (I'm assuming a blue smoke from burning oil) I'm inclined to think your rings aren't compressing any longer and you're burning oil. You might be in for a rebuild... I hope not.

My craftsman 32 cc 2 cycle line trimmer doesn't

Check the line head and cable, there may be grass or something like twine twisted between the shaft and housing. If nothing is found there take the spark plug out and see if it will turn over, possibly liquid gasoline has gotten into the cylinder somehow.
