SOURCE: how to repair bad sector of hard disk in a laptop

click start right click on my computer you should see your drive usually C: select properties click tools check now tick both boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery on any bad sectors

then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart

it will only schedule on restart if its the Primary hard drive with an operating system on it

do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer

automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

hope it helps

Can I fix my Seagate hard drive to bootable?

Hi, two things to try.
1. If you have the Win7 cd/dvd, go here and read:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/start-the-windows-7-recovery-environment/

But I'm thinking that you have a few bad sectors in the HD's boot area (educed from your tzak.tzak description - which is head seek (bang) trying to find the boot sectors). Which I'm not sure that Win7 recovery can cope with. But check out this link and read/follow links:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/how-to-fix-the-boot-sector-of-windows-7/deb6ad12-a6b1-46fc-9786-240f66f9143e

And this link (better?):
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/restoring-windows-7s-master-boot-sector-to/435f7bf7-9d5b-4741-9746-945ff06e6251

or
2. Go here and get SystemRescueCd:
http://www.sysresccd.org/SystemRescueCd_Homepage
It contains many tools for the repair of malfed systems.
You will want to use this tool: TestDisk
TestDisk[4]
Popular disk recovery software. Recovers lost partitions and repairs unbootable systems by repairing boot sectors. It can also be used to recover deleted files from FAT, NTFS and ext2 filesystems. File system recovery is supported for reiserfs, ntfs, fat32, ext2/3 and many others.

In closing, I would get a new HD, maybe a SSD? to replace your original hard drive (It may be failing, or it took a hard knock while in the boot phase, causing head-bang in the boot sector - not good). Make the new drive your master and use the old one for misc. data that you have originals of, i.e. music cd's, dvd movies, programs off-loaded from Tivo/DVR, etc.

Hope this at least gets you going in the right direction...

My phonex core utility doesn't know my HDD plz help

FOUR bad Sectors? The harddrive is toast.

1) http://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk7.htm

2) http://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htm

If there is any data on the harddrive you wish to save, stop fooling with it, and take it to a professional data recovery service. The more you mess with it, the harder, and less, data that can be recovered.

I bought my asus last year . since 1 month i noticed its going a little bit slow and hot. yesterday widows showed this message '' windows have detected a hard disk problem '' i tried to make a back up but...

Hi.
It sounds like your hard drive cooked itself.

This happens more often with hp laptops, but it can happen with any laptop, really.

The problem is the cooling vents on the bottom don't really allow enough airflow inside the laptop to cool anything off properly.

Try this first, though.

Try and boot up the computer, if it boot then do this.

Open computer, where it lists all the drives and stuff.

Right click on the hard drive that is giving you problems.

Select properties.

Click on the tools tab.

Click on the button that says check drive for errors.

Place a check mark on the boxes, and run it.

If there is a physical problem with the drive sectors, it might just be able to fix them.

If you only have one drive, or if the drive is the one with the operating system on it, it will pop up a box asking if you want to run scan at next boot.

Tell it yes, close all windows, programs, and reboot.

It will scan the drive, and if there are indeed bad sectors, it will try to save as much info on those sectors as possible.

After the scan, it will then boot up the rest of the way, unless the hard drive is totally shot.

If it is a bad drive, it will tell you that as well.

I hope this helps you out, good luck to you, and have a good day !

WON'T LOAD ON WINDOWS 7

Many things can cause that... I'll tell you which things you may have done wrong --->

1.You turned it off while installing an update. Solution: Format it
2.A part of your hard-disk's boot has a bad sector. Solution: Download HDD Regenerator and check your disc for bad sectors (if there are bad sectors, you should back up your files and then buy a new hard disk)
3.There's a problem with your Windows 7 booting files. Solution: Recover Windows 7 from their CD
4.Your PC is affected by a rootkit (a type of malware that loads before Windows). Solution: Format it

Hope this helps :)

Fujitsu Amilo Pro V2055. Starts boot, performs RAM check, etc. then displays "cant find operating system". Checked that HDD is ok by reading it using another computer. Tried hard disk utility...

This usually means 1 of a few things..
1. Your Harddrive is bad
2. You got a boot sector virus, and your boot ini file is so badly infected, your computer can't find the boot file and you need to format your c:\ or d:\ drive....if you can get to your CMD window (command) but the way you bring it up is from CMD in start/run/CMD but since you can't even boot to your desktop...then you can choose a few options..

IF you have your your Windows Xp, or Windows Vista or Window 7 (depending on how you purchased your system, I'm thinking XP...since with Vista and Windows 7 you can reload to factory settings)

If you do have the disk....then you WILL have to reload your Operating System ....IF your harddrive isn't bad (have bad sectors or clusters) or is just "old" or was bumped severely and there's a dent on your harddrive preventing your boot ini file from being found...

There are so many things that could be wrong with it....Send me more infomation....
It's definitely NOT your motherboard...it's a harddrive issue...whether from a virus (which there are many out there that could infect or even rename your boot file....or your harddrive is BAD..
Either way...let me know and I can help you further!!!

I have windows 7 when I try ro restore I get error message 0x800x70005

This error comes because there are bad sectors in your harddrive.
For that you have to first fix and recovers those bad sectors.
For that insert windows disk or recovery disk into rom then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALT+F2 key to enter in bios then go to boot menu and set first boot device as cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit.
Then it boot with that disk then follow the procedure and enter in recvoery console mode.
Then type in prompt "chkdsk /r" without "" then press "y" then it fix and recovers all bad sectors. Then you can restore it easily.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Thinkpad wont get past boot page

Hold down the F1 key, and power on the computer to get into the "Easy Setup".
Change the boot sequence to boot from CD-ROM first, save your settings, then restart the computer and have your Widows CD (or original system restore CD) in the CD player so it will read the CD before the information on the harddrive. If that don't work, replace the harddrive

Set defrag to run at boot up and it will resolve any bad sectors you have, and will write a new boot registry for you.
