The bag may be full, or some vacuums have a reset button if the motor is stalled.

I was sweeping my floor I turned it off, then when I went to turn it back on it wouldnt turn on? HELP

Check the power button switch, it is often cause vacuum to shut off. Thus cutting current flow into the vacuum circuit. Also check the cord for intermittent connection. The cord is subjected to bent, twist and other abuse action while vacuum is in use.
Good luck.

When I turn on the unit and push on the level that draws the "arm" back, it immediately shuts off. I return it to the upright position and turn it on again and repeat the process. Same thing...

seems like there is a short in the unit. it is extremely hard to find kenmore parts. i would probably just go out and buy a new vacuum. Kenmores arent worth fixing.

Bissel home healthy vac. The brush only turns on for a split second and shuts off. Each time I put it in the upright position and start over, it does the same thing. I thought it may be the switch up on...

Here is some information about a second Auto Cut-Off Switch near the power switch:
About the only "gripe" I can come up with has to do with the automatic brush shut off mechanism that causes the brush to stop rotating when the unit is moved into an upright position. This one's a double edged sword though. On one hand, it's very nice, because when you move from vacuuming to dusting, the automatic shutoff ensures that you're not going to be roughing up the carpet in one place while the vacuum is stationary. On the flip side, it can be a negative in isolated situations when you're vacuuming in a narrow space, such as the landing on my stairs. In these tighter areas, your natural tendency is to pull the handle upright as you pull back towards the wall, which shuts off the brush mechanism. The unit doesn't have to be perfectly vertical to shut off the brush, it seems to engage at about the twenty degree point. Again, this is somewhat of a moot point, because there are obvious advantages to having this design incorporated into the vacuum. There is a separate brush shut off switch near the power switch, but how often would people forget to turn off the brush when dusting? I'm already training myself to keep the handle at lower level while vacuuming and not bringing it near the angle that engages the shutoff, so this "problem" will probably correct itself with time anyway.

It sounds like a cut-off switch is your problem. It has to be located hear the swivel head of the vacuum, I would think, in order to trigger it. Upon reading reviews, I got the impression that Bissel's customer support would be of little help, but you could try to contact them. Personally, since you sound like you're mechanically inclined, I would take it by a Vacuum Repair Shop and just ask them what they think. 9 time out of 10 they'll know pretty much what the problem is, and if you can get them to tell you where the cut-off switch is, you'll probably be able to fix it yourself. Otherwise, they may offer to fix it reasonably (we hope).
A lot of problems with switches involve dirt. If you can locate the switch, you might be able to just spray some electrical contact cleaner in it, and get it working again.
Hope this helps, and good luck. Thanks for using FixYa!

Hoove Cyclonic Bagless vacuum shuts off after only a few minutes

The motor has a protective overload cutout device to stop it from over heating - this can be caused by a blockage of some sort in the hose or brushroll compartment or blocked filters.
After checking the above and it still cuts out, take it back under gurantee

Shuts off in upright position and spitting dirt back out

it is a blockage. Dyson cuts off in this case to prevent overload. Also leaking dirt indicates blockage. Strip everything out you can. Remove foot plate on base and check for hair or fibre blockage. it may be small and in an odd place.. seek and ye shall find. If not, return to dealer for service. Good vacuum though.

Just stopped mid hoovering and now won't switch on!

It is probably a thermal cut-off which is caused by a blockage. The machine will turn itself off before it overheats if it is a thermal cut-off. Once it has cooled down, you will be able to turn it back on again (usually 30 mins - 1 hour).

If the machine doesn't turn on at all anymore, you may need to replace the power switch. Call the Dyson helpline, they will do a blockage troubleshoot and if it's not that, they will tell you where you can find an authorized Dyson repair dealer in your area.

Why does the hose have no suction?

Sounds like your machine has a blockage in the vacuum system, and is cutting out from overheating. If you no longer have a manual, which will tell you about clearing blockages, you can download from the Hoover website.
Good luck!

Ok What is probably causing the problem is an internal error inside the vacuum. What I recomend you to do is take it back where you bought it and tell them what ever is wrong with it.

Hope it works! Tell me if you have any questions later on!
