Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire model FAA085P7A unit, purchased new in March of 2008. It has not had heavy use. I ran the unit during the night (it was a rainy night, humidity in the house was 77%, temp. in the house was 75 degrees, while temp outside was probably between 68 and 72), to drive the humidity down. I set the ''temp'' setting on the unit's panel to 67 degrees. After running continuously for 6 hours, the unit shut itself off. All of the green light displays on the front panel were on, so it wasn't a power outage problem. I hit the power off button to turn off the green lights, and let the unit alone for an hour or so. When I hit the power on button, the unit turned on and ran normally. (What I don't know is whether it had iced up and so turned itself off.) Is it likely under the conditions that I described above (i.e., inside and outside temps and humidities, and the temp setting of 67 degrees programmed into the unit) that it iced up? What other potential problem might be causing this? My e-mail address is :

Some units have a dehumidify setting to overcome this as they go through a defrost. You can either manually defrost running on heating for a few minutes, or have it defrost when it goes out on fault as happened.

Need drain tube

Measure the outside diameter of the vinyl tubing and then go to the hardware store and purchase a foot or two of soft copper tubing of an inside diameter that will just slide over the vinyl tubing and extend it for you. To attach the copper tube to the window sash you can use some crazy glue that is designed for both metal and what ever substance your sash is made from [usually either wood or stone].

Apparently the gfci on the plug (the reset button) has gone bad. The best thing to do is to purchase a new cord and replace it. These switches sometimes go bad. Good Luck

possible that your evap. coil is dirty and since the air flow is restricted because of the dirt the unit over amps. Once it starts to pull more amps than required the plug trips. Also the plug itself could be going bad which has happened to me before. Good Luck

Through the wall vs. window installation

I just purchased an alleged "window mount" air conditioner with the closest dimensions to the existing model. Do these mount as through the wall as well? My current opening = 18 x 26" the new purchase is 16 27/32 x 26.

There are 2 different types of window air conditioners – there are the window type of which will fit in a window that opens top to bottom and there is the slide in model of which the actual air conditioner will slide into a metal sleeve which is very common in apartments. In either case you need to measure the inside of the metal sleeve and then give that to the air conditioner dealer and he will know what to do and there is also a POS (point of sale) @ the store of which will also assist you in the measurement of the A/C unit – the window unit you need to measure the opening of the window itself, I hope this was helpful
