Question about Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Relief valve opens on my dyson dc24 when i use it with the canister on

My relief valve was opening up when I used my dyson dc24. I was able to take it apart and remove any blockages and I cleaned the filters. I turned it on to test if without the canister on and it worked fine. After I put the canister back on I had the same problem.

Christine, when you say cannister, you're referring to the dirt cannister correct? So, if you had a blockage with the cannister on the unit before and you're getting the same symptons now after having cleaned everything, all disassembled..........seems like there's only one thing to call it. It has to be in that bin. I've had a couple of them that died of other causes so I've kept the dirt bins from several and can test with them. It makes it real simple and easy for everything one to understand.

It's still blocked somewhere. Check for more plugs, not on the tank.

Hi Christine, it's Jack at Dyson.

From your description it sounds as if the suction relief valve is activating because there may still be a blockage in the machine missed when you checked previously. There could also be an issue with the washable pre-filter housed within the cyclone pack.

For help locating the blockage, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

You may also want to wash the filters again, ensuring you follow the steps shown in the video attached. Use cold water without detergent, and allow both filters to dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing them.

SOURCE: relief valve?

Hi,

I had the same problem with my DC08. What I had found is that cleaning the main washable filter will remove the problem. I have a log fire at my place and I have found that the vacuum does not like the dust from the fire. Even though I sweep up any ash before vacuuming, the problem still exists. At times over winter I will have to clean the filter every week as it doesn't take long for the relief valve to start to open. Over summer, I have no relief valve problems at all. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: pressure relief valve opens

Hi.

If the hose works ok then you have A blockage in the section of the machine that goes from the brush roller to the wastebin.

Just remove the soleplate under the machine & check all the airways working back to the wastebin. definately check removeable inspection ports you will probably find omething in them blocking the airway.

Vacuum relief valve

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC24 includes a suction relief valve. This helps protect the motor when too little airflow is passing through the vacuum. This could be due to a blockage, or because the two lifetime washable filters are overdue for wash.

To check for blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24new/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usualdc24

In normal use we recommend washing both filters at least once a month, using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them in the machine:.

I'm confident that washing both filters, and removing any blockages from the airways, will resolve the issue. However if you'd like any guidance from our experts after you've given this a try, you're welcome to call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Sucking and blowing sound went switched on

Hi Steve, it's Jack at Dyson.

From what you've described, it sounds as if the suction relief valve may be activating. This opens to let more airflow into the motor if the machine is used when blocked, or if the washable filters are very overdue for a clean.

In normal use, both filters should be washed using cold water without detergent, at least once a month. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them in the machine.

To check your DC24's cleaner head and airways for blockages, please follow each of the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24new/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usualdc24

Why does pressure release keeps going off in canister on dyson dc24 when turned on

Remove the filter in the ball and the filter in the hood. Turn on and if valve still pops off then you have a clogged hose or tube. If it's ok then one or both the filters are choked and require cleaning.

DC24 has an alternative suction when upright

Hi Claire, it's Jack at Dyson.

From what you've described, it sounds like the suction relief valve is activating - it opens to allow additional airflow into the machine when it's blocked, to prevent the machine from overheating.

You should be able to resolve this by checking for and removing any blockages, and washing both filters. You should find our online support guide useful when checking for blockages: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

In normal use we recommend washing both filters at least once a month, as shown in the video attached. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them.

Rear canister valve

Hi there Coire, it's Jack at Dyson.

The valve you've described is the suction relief valve. This will open when something is restricting airflow through the vacuum cleaner.

In normal use, we recommend washing both filters at least once a month, as shown in the video above. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing them in the machine.

If you find this doesn't resolve the issue it's likely your machine has a blockage - to locate and remove this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

I have a DC24 dyson and it is not having suction without white button on canister pushed in.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC24 doesn't seem to be working as well as it should be. The white button you've described is the suction relief valve - this helps protect the motor if the machine is used when blocked.

From what you've described, it does sound like your machine has a blockage - the filters may also need a wash if you haven't done this recently. Some quick troubleshooting checks should help locate the cause of the issue, and we'd appreciate the opportunity to provide further assistance by phone. You can reach our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

We'll look forward to hearing from you.

My dyson DC24 makes a loud noise when turned on. The air flow seems to be going out another another end on the vaccum kind of by the on switch.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. If the relief valve is activating, you may have a blockage somewhere in the machine, and the filters may also need a wash.

To locate and remove any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

In normal use, the filters need to be washed at least once a month, as shown in the video below. We'd recommend using cold water without detergent, and allowing at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them in the machine. It may help to leave the filters somewhere warm, such as beside a radiator, or in an airing cupboard.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give our customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

There is a - and i will call it - a relief valve on the top front of the canister that pops when the handle is released to vacuum - i have cleaned everything like the manual says but did not work -

Im not sure about this relief valve - if its a valve that has a flipable catch on the back of the handle its not always supposed to pop open. Perhaps you could be a bit clearer where the valve actually is? Older Dyson models have a valve on top of the handle where further small cleaning attachments can be fixed onto clean. If its clogged then a wire brush will need to be inserted into the handle to clear the clog thus making the attachments **** up dirt.
