I have an older Husqvarna 41 saw I can get it to start but it only idles for about 5-10 seconds. I then need to wait 30-40 seconds for it to start again. it has new fuel line and filter and I've cleaned the carb. If I hit the throttle it dies instantly
When you cleaned the carb did you put a new kit in? Did you blow out the passageways? Sounds like a bad diaphram...
Were you able to get the saw running again?
The symptoms described sound like a clogged tank vent. I'm not proficient with Husqvarnas, but I have seen four Poulan saws over the last two years (I'm not a fan of repairing low-end equipment since something else seems to wear out later), and ALL of them suffered from this issue. The tank vent on their units is inferior, and it constantly clogs from the wood chips that get near it.
Modern fuel systems for handheld equipment have a check valve somewhere to keep gas and vapors from escaping when the temperature rises. It must allow air to enter when a slight vacuum is applied (carburetor drawing fuel). When foreign matter obstructs the valve, the unit runs lean and stalls - especially when throttled. Many of these valves are located in fuel filler caps, and they can be disassembled for inspection and cleaning. If there is a soft component that looks like a duck's beak in the cap, it can sometimes be cleaned to fix the issue. In other cases the duckbill valve or entire cap need to be replaced.

SOURCE: hit the throttle it quits running . it starts
Conected to the rubber induction boot is the impulse hose, it is a short curled pipe, make sure this has not split and is conected to the two nipples on the carb flange.
