I am having problems with the nx501e searching for GPS receivers but doesn't find anything
The nx501e defaulted to French. I have just put new uk maps on. The sat nav shows my location as being in France when I'm actually in the uk. I can't seem to get it to see where my real location is. When I search for location, it searches the route, then nothing. It says searching GPS receivers and doesn't find any, it just keeps searching and searching. Please could someone help with this problem.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. goodluck!

On the Nuvi 7xx series as well as many other nuvi models, voice updates are free and downloadable from garmin.com. Garmin only charges for map upgrades. Maps do not contain voices. I have backups of french text to speech (TTS) voices. I would be happy to give you links to download them to you.
Alpine always defaults to Torrance, California because that's where they are headquartered. It sounds like you have a bad (or unplugged) GPS antenna or it is not located properly (beneath metal, etc.).
Should work just fine without having to change anything. If i remember right UK is still on the imperial system and not the metric which wouldn't affect the unit, just in the road signs, As in kms to someplace instead of miles like you are used to. As for the maps i would suggest that you buy another SD card and download the UK maps to it and leave your card at home. To switch maps see if the map you need is on the SD card, probably not, but it might be on your cd that came with the unit. If so just use a new card and download it using the software onto the SD card. Test the card to make sure that it works before you leave though. Hope this helps
i have just updated my friends binatone x350 uk and roi for him. go to http://binatonegps.com/gps/_uk/support_service.php, click on map updates. it gives you a number to call which is an 0845 number but heres the cheaper number 01325 304473. The update is £32.99 which includes P+P, and comes on a 2GB SD, instructions and new manual for new software. Tom Tom and Garmin charge £35 to £40 for a direct download service one off so this isn't too expensive compared. The new layout is actually easier to use and addresses load up quicker when entered into the search bar. Hope this helps.
Out of range should not occur. I am in australia and I have French maps and I can request Chans Elysee" and as soon as i get satellite I get a mileage and a drive carefully. I can flick it all the way to the beach and see the ocean i would cross to get there. A long trip and a wet one in a car! It might depend on the version of the map and the coverage ( usually 98%) Perhaps contact ToTom and pose the question of reliability. I would think the maps would work fine despite the message.
I believe your current location is somewhere in UK/Ireland, which means the Nuvi's last/current satellite fix is not anywhere within Spain/Portugal. If you need to use the maps features of that country where you're not physically there with the Nuvi, the Nuvi must be in Simulation mode first. Fold down the antenna to switch off GPS (not device) and enter Simulation mode.
Then, scroll the map screen (combinations of zooming out, browsing, and zooming in to the spot) until you find the location you want to simulate (it must be within the maps coverage). Then, tap 'Set Loc' at the bottom of the screen. At this point, as far as the Nuvi is concerned, this is the GPS location where you are at. Then you may proceed with Address Search, etc. using the other map's database.
