Question about LG GSA-2166D DVD RW Dual Layer Burner

1 Answer

Is write speed the problem??

I went and bought this burner last week because my E drive had just quit working. I hooked it up and burned 3 or 4 dvd's just fine. I went to Wal-Mart and bought more blank dvd's because I had run out. I tried to burn one last night on these new dvd's and it's telling me that "This disc type is not supported". They are DVD-R which is what I was using before. The only difference I can see is that the old ones were 8x write speed and these new ones are 16x write speed. According to the paperwork with my burner you can use 16x write speed so I can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas? They are the same brand as the ones I was using before also.

With the hp dvd burner 1040r I have, I've burnt hundreds of cds on the same eMac I've had for quite awhile (I think it was made in like '02). One day, my burner just quit burning. It will read and play...

It is hard to believe it lasted this long, sometimes the write laser diode only lasts a couple of years before it dies. You might have to replace the drive.

I am trying to durn a dvd from a video on my computer and it keeps telling that there is an error. When it finally burnt a dvd it was only the menu. What can be done?

go to your properties or preferences for the drive, make sure the speed is not set to BEST speed, and set the SPEED of the drive to the spec's said for your operating system or what the drive is set for, like you bought an 8x drive, set the speed to 8x or LOWER, the lower the better, maybe 6x, sometimes your CACHE cannot keep up with the speed, like your RAM, or Operating System, or even your PC or LAPTOP or NETBOOK. Slow down the settings, it will take longer, but grab a cup of Joe or watch some TV or a VIDEO online while it burns, last, check your drive connections to make sure your drive is directly connected, not through a USB HUB or router for the connection. I hope this helps, GOOD LUCK!!

When i try to burn cd burner quits at 12% and fails

the only solution is to buty an external cd/dvd burner with a buffer under burn built in in use a decent burning program like nero, or nti or any other ones that let you choose the burn speed as I use 8x for cd's and dvd's but somtimes the burner won't alow me to change speed.

I know this is the one way or have the burner looked at by an engineer thats the other solution.

Good luck with this one

DVD Duplicator has taken a crap!

DVD burners only last so long unfortunately! I've replaced many myself and have found that it's also not worth buying any lite-on in my opinion. Have a look around using the link below and you'l get a decent brand at a low price. Once a DVD writer has burned lot's of discs the lens itself becomes burnt out as far as I am aware, sometimes after 200 burns with cheap ones.

Individual drives - the pioneer at £18.99 isd a great buy!

hope this helps
