Unplug all phones in your house and then take turns to plug one phone only into phone socket on wall at a time. See if fault still occurs.with each phone. This is known as an isolation test and your phone provider will ask you to do this if you report a fault with your line. If the fault still is occurring it could be caused by a bad connection at the terminal connections. Ask your provider to do a line test for high resistance. You could be disconnected by the phone provider for non payment of your bill .

Everything is working fine on my lexmark all-in-one except for the fax. It is dialing the number and says that it is connecting but will not connect. Have cut it off for a period of time then cut it back...

It could be the fax line in the wall. Try to insert a telephone straight to the wall and listen for a dial tone. If you hear no dial tone, please contact your phone company and have them check the line. If you hear a dial tone, re-plug the printer into the wall using a different known working telephone cable. Try to fax again.

Can not phone out or receive phone calls bt say my line is ok, my broad band works ok but not my phone

When did it start?
You haven't mentioned what you hear when you lift the receiver and try to dial out.
Please try this: (A process of elimination.)
- Unplug your modem from the telephone line.
- Plug your telephone directly to the telephone line without going through the line filter.
- It should work OK. If the phone is not defective, you should hear a clear dial tone.
- Now connect your phone through the line filter and try to use it again.
- If it does not work then you need a new line filter for your telephone.
- If it works, then re-connect your modem back to the telephone line like it was before.

If the modem knocks out your phone again, please contact the modem supplier.

I have two dell laptops that are having the same problem of no dial tone

First of all, be sure that the connection you have configured on the computers are Dial Up connections.

If you have restrictions activated on the telephone line, removing them might help. Some other services of your telephone provider can also prevent your modems to properly detect the dial tone. It might be worth to take a look in that direction.

It might also be a problem with the telephone line. Try also to dial the number normally entered in the dial-up connections. You should hear a ringing tone shortly followed by noises similar to a fax machine. If you hear this, you access correctly to your providers dial up server and the problem would be with the two computers.

How can I get the telephone on my Brother Fax T96 to work?

Step by step information at the link below.
Brother Fax T96
The F/T Mode is used to allow the fax machine and the telephones to share the same telephone line. When a call comes in, the fax machine and all extension telephones on that line will ring according to the number of rings you have set for the Ring Delay.
When the Ring Delay is completed, the fax machine will answer the call and determine if it is a fax call or a telephone (voice) call.
The fax machine can determine this by the signal it is receiving on the telephone line. If someone is sending a fax automatically , the sending fax machine will transmit a fax tone (a series of beeps every 3 seconds).
If your fax machine hears these tones, it will receive the fax.

If the fax machine does not hear any fax tones, it assumes it is a telephone (voice) call and will begin ringing the F/T ring tones (double ring) for the length of time you selected for the F/T Ring Time. These tones will only ring on the fax machine's handset (extension or external phones will not ring). At the end of the F/T ring time the fax machine will go into the receive mode in order to receive a manual fax.
(If the call was a voice call and was not answered, the caller will hear the fax receive tones also).
  • If you answer the call before the fax machine(during the ring delay period) and determine it is a fax, you can transfer the fax to the fax machine for receiving.

  • If you answer the call on an "extension" phone and hear a beep every 3 seconds (automatic fax) or silence (manual fax), press *51 or *91 for New Zealand (remote activation code) on the telephone keypad, wait to hear the fax machine turn on (chirping sounds) and then hang up.

  • If you answer on the handset of the fax machine and hear a beep every 3 seconds or silence, press the Fax Start or Start/Copy key on the control panel of the fax machine and then hang up the handset.

  • If you answer a call on an "extension" phone during the F/T Ring Time, you will hear the F/T ring tones.
To release the call from the fax machine, press #51 or #91 for New Zealand (remote deactivation code) on the telephone keypad and you can speak to the calling party.

  • If you pick up the handset of the fax machine during the F/T ring time, you may talk to the calling party immediately.

Can not sent or get fax, have dial tone but if somedody sent us a fax says line is busy same as when we sent fax dose not go through says poor line, called phone comany they said line is ok,any idea?

Try calling your machine from a telephone...it should answer and you will hear the "fax tones" in the telephone earpiece.
If you do not hear any tones in the earpiece, then this could be an indication that you have lost the "NCU" pcb in the machine...this is the pcb normally that the fax line plugs into in the back of the machine. It will have to be replaced to effect repairs.

No dial tone pressing hook, NG and Poor line condition transmission report on sending and receiving. Confirmed good dial tone on line in and on phone on ext. Copy, display, everything else fine. I hear...

Hello,

Make sure that you have your telephone line from the wall jack plugged into the port on the fax that says "LINE" and that your telephone is plugged into EXT.

All your cables and jacks seem like they are working since your phone gets a dial tone, the onyl thing could be that the wires are mixed or the modem on the fax is broken.

Thanks,

Pat

Message reads: "Check tel line"

You can remove your telephone line from the base unit and fix it to stranded telephone unit and hear the dial tone.If it heard then some inductor or else part may be broken inside the base unit due high current surge. If the dial tone didn't heard from the other phone also check for the corroded line cord or modular box fault with the tel line. There should be 30 Volt-50Volt D.C.Voltage at your wire ends.
