Hi, worn brushes , no unless they arcing on the motor, chipped brushes once again if they touching at a point yes they could arcing and result of that smoke, however i believe your motor could be breaking down, resistance wise , hence the fact it getting too hot because a resistance is building up in the windings,, another situation could be the controller could be burning out the motor....

check the resistance of the motor by disconnecting it and use a smart meter or electrical meter to a take the lowest ohm reading , what is it ??

Electric motor heats up and stops after using for about 15 to 20 minutes, when it cools it runs for a short time

If the motor is heating up more than usual, a couple of things
may be the source.
a) DC 24volt Motor itself has a shorted winding and using more current than normal. In that case the motor may need to be replaced. These DC motors have a commutated armature
that uses two carbon brushes. The carbon brushed do wear
down in time, so that could also be the source. The carbon
brushes are replaceable on pretty much all scooters and
can be obtained from MonsterScooter.
b) Controller issue where more current is being supplied to
the motor, but the motor itself determines how many amps
it draws from the batteries (ASSUMING FULL CHARGE HERE)
BASED ON THE BATTERY VOLTAGE, the lower the battery
voltage, the more current is required to move the transmission.

What is the main cause for motor failure in a CT7.1 tradmill

The CT-7.1 is the exact same treadmill as the Horizon T-202.
Treadmills use brushed DC motors. It is possible that the brushes are worn out. You may be able to purchase new brushes on-line. You can source them by searching for replacement parts for either of the above two makes and models.
It is also possible that some circuitry on the control board has been damaged or even something as simple as a sensor switch has failed.

What is wrong when the 11245evs drill starts smoking?

It could be that the motor isn't getting the proper current to run, causing it to overheat. Don't use long or low guage extension cords with this type of tool. If the brush holder is warped or the brushes are worn down so that they aren't making good contact with the armature the same condition could arrise. It's possible you have a short or broken wire in the armature or field that's causing it to arc and heat up. Another possibility is something wrong in the workings of the drill that is causing the motor to overwork and get hot. There are a LOT of parts in there so you'd have to take it apart and know what to look for as far as damaged or broken parts.

I would like to build a 24volt wind turbine ,I think that I have most of the Items to construct the unit but just need a wiring diagram to get started ,would you be able to help me?

allright. what kind of electric motor do you have? brushed DC or brushless? Yyu will need a controller in both situations. Actually if you have DC type brushed motor you will only need a regulator circuit. You may use one from trucks which is used to charge 24 volt battery:.

My coleman 18volt PMD8133XL drill smokes and has a burning smell when oressing triger

Hello, I hate when this happens to my tools. This could be a number of issues. I would think that the transistor that controls the motor speed is shot or the motor itself is loading the transistor causing the smoke, or the brushes internally of the motor are worn and causing the overheating, hence smoke. Is the unit new or well used?

WAs using treadmill with 2 minutes left it stopped and there was a E1 in the display... Now it wont work...

the E-1 means motor lost speed signal their a number of things the can cause this problem:

1) Motor brushes worn down to less than 3/8" in length REPACE BRUSHES

2) Motor Control Board : After starting the treadmill was their burning smell REPLACE BOARD. this condition can be caused by a worn running belt and deck Loosen belt and with a good light and inspect the weave of the belt , it should not be smooth and deck should have a dark mirror gloss with no ridges. is so they also need to be replaced.

3 Ribbon connector may defective so if the Motor Controll Board is operating the red L E D are lit one is 11 v dc and the other is 5 v dc check voltage on the upper console then if one of these voltage are missing between the boards then replace the ribbon.

Uplug unit open motor shroud and begin with # 1 plug unit back in at wall socket and due the rest Good Luck!!

Hi i have a dewalt DC 988 combi drill, 4 years old. its starting to have a burning smell when used what are possible problems and solutions?

It all depends on what is burning I'm afraid. When in use, run your hand around the back of the machine and handle area to see if anywhere in particular is getting hot. On the older versions of these (DW988) the leads leading from the switch to the brush holders would overheat and burn, also causing damage to the brush holders themselves. Is there any smoke coming from the rear vents, if so you wil probably find it is a motor problem and the smell would be the insulation burning off the armature. The only other thing to check would be to make sure the battery isn't shorting and getting hot, as this could also cause damage to the switch and vice versa.

Brother AX-25 typewriter won't print

If the cams assembly in the carrier unit does not cycle properly the power on routing will not complete. This problem can be caused by worn contacts in the dc motor, causing intermittent or slow operation of the cams during POR or printing. This is common with older machines. I have replaced quite a few dc motors in carrier units of this style of printer. The motors are no longer available but they may be revived by spraying a good electronic cleaner in the holes of the motor to clean the brushes (RH SIDE). Take care to not damage the plastics of the case with cleaners. If you have many machines w/ motors, you may become accomplished at disassembling the motors and repairing the brushes, but this is difficult and time consuming.

I have an old sunbeam mixmaster that trips the safety switch

There are two probable causes for this. One is that the insulation in the motor has broken down. This is definitely an unsafe condition, and unless you are a motor repair specialist there is nothing you can do.
The other cause is an accumulation of graphite around the brush holders. Fixing this would require pulling down the motor and cleaning the graphite away. This usually happens with motors that have done a lot of work.
It is normal that by the time the brushes have worn so much that the dust causes shorting the motor needs to be serviced.

Read this to understand what is required to pull the motor down and to reset the speed control:

Just cleaning the motor housing out thoroughly may get the machine running. I make no guarantees though. If the motor insulation is failing the motor will remain unsafe.
