Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

1 Answer

I was using this router without problem then I moved. After reconnecting I show I am connected to the internet, but cannot browse any page. Turned everything off. Unplugged everything. Started with modem, waited 2 minutes then turned on router, then 1 min later turned on computer. Problem is the same. Internet access is fine with cable from modem to computer.

I unplugged the cable from my modem to computer, hooked up the router, plugged it in and got a message the network cable was unplugged. I pushed reset for 30 seconds with no change. Tried again and still no change. Unplugged the router cables and reconnected the direct cable from modem to computer so that I could reply. This is a Netgear Router, Model WGR 614v2

Is the wireless turned on, on your computer and did you connect to the network from your computer?

Since you can use the wire I think it might be best that we do a remote support session, I will be able to see the screen and figure it out for you.

connect the computer to the internet with the wire and click on the link below to start a remote support session on the problem computer.

Lets solve the problem over a remote support connection - I will be able to see the screen and sort out the problem. Click on this link below:
    http://www.fastsupport.com/321330505
above link will start the session, if the session doesn't start within a minute or two, use the manually download software link at the bottom and follow instructions.

Why do i continue to lose my connection to the server when playing a game?

LAN Connection Issues and Port Settings LAN-based matches between players on your internal home network are not routed through the Internet or Battle.net servers. Disconnections from LAN matches are attributed to faulty internal wiring or router settings. Log in to your router's administration page via a Web browser and ensure ports 6112 through 6119 TCP are open for traffic flow. If this does not work, check your network wiring and ensure it's properly seated in the computer's and router's Ethernet ports. Corrupt Server List and Virus Attack If you have recently downloaded any maps or connected to privately hosted servers, it's possible you picked up a virus that altered your server file list and is directly causing connection issues. Scan your computer for viruses, using an updated virus definition database. b> Multiple IP Connections b> If you and a friend share a single license or key, disconnects occur if you attempt logging in while the other is playing or vice versa. Key sharing is against the Terms of Use and can lead to an IP ban or restriction. Ensure no one else has access to your CD key or tries to access the game while you are playing to avoid multiple IP disconnects. b> High Latency Disconnects Internet connections with latency over 500 ms can cause disconnects while playing in heavily populated online matches. Alleviate this issue by closing all connection-intensive programs running on your computer. Reconnect to the .net servers with only running on your computer. If you continue experiencing disconnects, visit Speedtest.net and determine whether your latency is above 500 ms. If so, contact your Internet provider for further troubleshooting. Internet crashing b> If your Internet Explorer keeps randomly crashing (closing by itself), there may be an add-on or temporary page disrupting the connection. Every time you browse the web, Internet Explorer keeps track of the websites you visit. It keeps these pages, along with cookie trackers, in the "Temporary Browsing History" folder. Some websites cause Internet Explorer to crash.

Open the Internet Explorer browser. Go to "Tools > Delete Browsing History." Hit "Delete All." Check off the box that says "Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons." Hit "OK." Close and reopen the browser. b> Disable Add-Ons b> Go to "Start > Search." Type "Internet Explorer" and hit "Enter." The computer will search for any files with this label. Double-click on the file that says "Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)." This will allow you to browse in IE without any additional plug-ins or add-ons that might be causing the browser to crash. b> Reset Internet Explorer b> Open the IE browser. Go to "Tools > Internet Options." Hit "Advanced." Click on "Reset" and then hit "Enter." Close and reopen the browser. Hope this helps. b>

It was working fine until ive reset my linksys wrt54g, and i did my setup again, but i dont get any internet connection, my linksys is using a cable to my pc. please help

When you resetted your linksys router, chances are, the setup for WAN connection was lost. You can try these steps:

1. Connect the internet directly to your pc. If your pc was able to browse the internet, move on to the next step. If not, you'll have to contact your ISP for the settings of your internet connectivity.
2. Connect back the internet to the WAN port of the router, and connect your pc to the router's LAN port.
3. Open the router's page in a browser (the address usually is 192.168.1.1, username is admin and password is admin)
4. If your router has a setup wizard, run the setup wizard, because it usually clones your pc's mac address.

Hope this helps.

I just moved into a new apartment and I am currently attempting to use the same linksys router that I used at my old place (without difficulity). My lap top in the bottom right corner displays...

> excellent connectivity

This refers to the wireless connection between your computer & your router, not to the connection from your cable-modem (or DSL-modem) out through your ISP to the Internet.

If you use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer directly to the cable/DSL modem, do you still have "intermittent" problems?
If so, then your router (or other wireless devices, such as your neighbours' router, or your neighbours' wireless telephones that are trying to operate on the same broadcast frequency) is the problem.

We setup our router and it works for the computer and 1 laptop but i cant get my laptop to connect to the internet.

if you are able to connect to internet with your desktop and not connecting through laptop, i suspect there is a problem with your laptop's Port settings.. run these commands in command prompt. (run -> cmd)

1. netsh winsock reset
2. ipconfig /flushdns

after this, windows firewall should be turned off. Then try to reconnect your WLAN. Give suitable WEP Key if you got.. Then Browse.. Be sure that your Laptop lies in connectable distance from Router. Good Luck

Can't view any web pages

Hi there.
Make sure that the switch on the front of the laptop is turned on and the LED indicator light is on.
Use the keyboards wireless toggle which is Fn-F8 or Fn-F2.
If this does not work reset your router and the modem by removing the power cords from the back of them for 2 mins (don't unplug from the wall) then after 2 mins plug them both back in and wait again for them to reset and try to reconnect to the internet.
Please post back with the results and for any additional help if needed.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

I cannot browse the internet. i am connected

Use this Tip as check list for your connection.
Then:
  1. connect your PC to router using a LAN cable and be sure you can browse
  2. connect to you router config page as admin and disable your security on Wlan, create a Unique SSID name for your WLAN.
  3. stay connected with Lan Cable and check if you see the just created WLAN (= unique SSID)
  4. Connect to Wlan using same parameters (no security)
  5. as soon you are sure connection established (browse Net) disconnect LAN cable to check reliability.
  6. reconnect Lan cable and reinstall security protection: WPA + PSK, TKIP passphrase, NO broadcast. and match router settings with PC settings.
  7. retry every step if not successfull until ypu master the environment.
Of course let us know the result by scoring this solution and feel free to ask for further help: leave your email if you need remote assistance to your PC.

Can you get into the router setup page? Connect the modem to the WAN port of the router. Then connect one pc (to start do not connect to a switch port beside the WAN port). Get into the setup page (usually http://192.168.1.1), and ensure that your modem is connected (to internet), that you have internet access enabled, and that DHCP is turned on. If all of this is ok, try turning the power off to modem and router; then power on modem, and when it has reset, turn on the router.
