SOURCE: instructions for theading a Sears Kenmore Sewing machine model 158.14000

all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side, the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.

To wind the bobbin, guide the thread around the thread guide on
the left top of your machine, then to the bobbin winder. Wind the thread around the bobbin several times, place the bobbin on top of the bobbin winder, push it against the wheel and press the foot pedal. It should stop winding when the bobbin is full or you take your foot off the control

Where do you put in the oil on a Pinnock model 450 sewing machine?

Someone was kind enough to attach the user manual to their blog. Otherwise, it would be difficult to find:

Bobbin tread is loose when sewing on cotton material Have adjusted tension, it is on 9. It is fine when I sew denim, which I sew a lot but I am trying to sew cotton now. I have cleanned machine, changed...

Have you checked not only the top tension but also the bottom (bobbin) tension? Top tension is usually a lever wheel etc on the machine (depending on model). To tighten the bobbin tension you need to tighten the small screw on your bobbin casing.

I don't suppose it could be as simple as this?

I am loading bobbin and can't thread cotton

Open the manual and lay it right next to the machine.

Raise the presser foot and thread the machine - always have the presser foot up for this proceedure - according to the written instructions. Same for the bobbin.

The tension should be set according to the recommendations in the manual.

Once you get the machine set-up and sewing.

Refer back to the manual as you read and test each and every feature of the machine.

This will help you become better acquainted with this particular model.

It matters not how new you are to sewing or if you started sewing when Eve needed to switch from fig leaves to textiles - everyone needs to read and apply the instructions provided in the manual. Graphics and pictures are helpful but sometimes miss important steps.

Best wishes for many successful projects.
