Either the start relay in the compressor is grounding electrically or the defrost heater is (most likely start relay). To replace this yourself is difficult as it requires technical knowledge. If you are located in California, bay area I could help you personally

SOURCE: Freezer and fridge areas both 50 degrees

Assuming you have a frost-free refigerator:
Is your motor-compressor running?
If so, check if you have ice in the freezer section; if so, maybe your defrost thermostat or heating element is kaput.
If the motor-compressor is not running, check in the back of the refrgerator if the defrost time is stuck open, bu turning clockwire the small test screw, with a 1/2inch screwdriver.

SOURCE: Everytime I plug in the power cord, it trips the breaker.

Refrigerators are not designed to run on a GFCI. Try a heavy duty extension cord to the fridge from a outlet that is not GFCI protected. If it still trips you probably have a short circuit in the compressor.

SOURCE: Our house was surged with lightening yesterday,

Sounds like the compressor is pulling too many amps and tripping the overload. Compressor could be shorted.

SOURCE: I have a GE side by side and it just stopped

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa,

Unfortunately based on your post ( has no power and nothing is running. I check the house fuse panel and no breakers are tripped. Also I pulled the fridge out and tested the wall outlet and there\'s power )
the issue is likely the control board (PCB) at the back of your fridge.

If you slide the fridge out and look at the back you'll see a square panel approx. 4"x5" held by four screws ( sometimes three ) remove it and you'll see this control...

macmarkus_198.jpg

It should be available ( part # WR55X10942 ) at "repairclinic.com" or "searspartsdirect.com" to name a couple for about $150 or so and come with a guide to install it, though it should be harness for harness & wire for wire.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and good luck. Let me know how you make out or if you need further assistance and I'll help in any manner I can.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Find out why my freezer is shorting

Is your FREEZER is plugged into a wall socket which is protected by an EARTH LEAKAGE UNIT or RCD [Residual Current Device] ???
Most manufacturers advise NOT to have this type of appliance connected through an RCD as the start load required when the COMPRESSOR "kicks in" is quite large [especially in larger fridge/freezer units] AND will quite often TRIP your RCD. These appliances are better connected to a separate electrical circuit if at all possible and not protected by an RCD.

Check to make sure that in the process of moving a "hot" wire under the refrigerator did not come loose and now is contacting a metal part of unit.

U have a classic short circuit which accounts for the breaker popping immediately. It is not a short in the compressor because that would have popped the self resetting clixon and not the house breaker.

With the unit unplugged remove the machine compartment and visually inspect for and burnt marks or frayed wiring. if non is seen, remove the wiring connectors from one component at a time and re test by plugging the unit back in. This will help you isolate the issue hopefully.
The machine compartment is on the back and the power cord is attached behind it. It is usually connected with 1/4" screws so a socket or nut driver will help you gain access.

Fridge freezer tripping rcd

Ensure it fully dries out before trying it again. Water in the electrics will throw your trip instantly. If it's dry now, and you are having the same problem. check the electrics for a short circuit or earth fault. Usually a compressor earth fault is to blame.

Xerox Phaser 8550 tripping RCD on warm up

IF the warranty is still in effect, call for service.
IF no warranty, then check the heaters for the solid inks.
Probably a bad element, or a shorted element.
Unless you are skilled with electrical meters, V-O-M type,
this could be dangerous.
DO NOT ATTEMPT to troubleshoot this with power on.
IF you can use a meter, with the power OFF,
check for continuity and resistance with multi-meter set to Ohms.
BE CAREFUL!
Electricity can KILL!

Check for blockage of the damper door which regulates airflow from the freezer into the fridge. It might have gotten some ice buildup there while the freezer door was open.

Suddenly tripped off house

Hi akula, 200 ks to a fridgie, LG appliance, you must be in Australia;) Is it the earth leakage circuit breaker operating. If so, then you have a leakage problem to earth from the heater pad(not quite sure what that is, but this problem will need to be repaired. Am doing some research to see if there is anything that can be done without just getting a new fridge. Back to you soon.

regards
Graeme
