SOURCE: Sata Hard Drive not detected on Bios

I would tend to agree that if the ports are set to autodetect it would suggest that they are looking for drives, but go through every item in your bios just to make sure that there isn't some obscure spot where the port is turned off.

If your bios is not detecting a drive your o/s is not going to find it either, and Linux will likely have the driver it needs when you go to load it. What's more, if it doesn't, you're rather hosed until it does.

If everything looks right after checking and rechecking and sleeping on it and checking again, but your bios still won't find the drive, take the drive back and get it replaced.

SATA HARD DRIVE - XP INSTALLATION
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

BDR206bk/1 Bluray Burner?

It shouldnt need a driver to boot from it on a modern system, as far as i know... although to be honest never tried an install via a blueray drive.

I assume you have already set the boot sequence so this drive should boot first, from within the BIOS.
You can access the BIOS usually by pressing repeatedly either the F2, F10 or delete key, depending on the system, as soon as you power on the system. within there, often under "advanced settings", look for boot sequence... and make sure this drive is listed first... then save changes and exit...

I know there are some issues depending on which sata port u are using on the mainboard... try changing the cable to another sata port. if the sata port is an ODD port, it is often only enabled when ACHI is also enabled from within the BIOS. so, id try changing the sata port the drive is connected to...

a couple of things to try first...
hope this info helps.

Run a sata drive as main boot up drive. Xp on ide cant see new sata drive to format or install Windows 7?

XP installation does not have SATA drivers.
You need to have the SATA driver on a floppy disk and during the XP installation press F6 to install the SATA driver.
The other alternative is to change the BIOS configuration and set the disk controller to IDE or SATA native driver, then install XP.
After Windows installation then install the SATA driver.
Download the driver from the motherboard WEB site.

Compaq CQ40-108TU unable to install XP OS

Prepare a Bootable XP Disc installer.
At first go to BIOS Setup to Boot First Priority the CD/DVD Rom Drive.
After that disabled SATA or RAID Configuration. The Bootable XP Disc Installer could not go on when you don't disable the SATA or RAID Connection.
Don't worry that you are thinking it would not detected the SATA HDD by Bootable Disc but it is. Then follow the instruction.
Good luck!

If i am helpful to you please rate me.
Thank you.

Sata Hard Drive not detected on Bios

Hi,

When istalling th O/S the system will ask you to press F2 to install the SATA drivers, if you do not press this and install the SATA drivers for the HDD, the system will not read the drive,

Re-install the O/S and watch (( you get 3 seconds to choose it ))

Press F2 when it asks you
(( are you installing SATA HDD ))

Stick the driver in at this point
(( you should have a disc with drivers on it that came with it ))

Finish the install, the system will then read from the SATA drive,

It's because usually the system is looking for a IDE drive.

Your using SATA, so you need to tell the system, that this is a SATA drive,

You will be good to go then

Regards
Richard.

Installing Hitachi P7K500 Sata Hard Drive

Windows XP does not come out to support SATA hard drive, because inside do not inclued the SATA driver, that why u cannot see the harddisk during the setup. What u can do is try to install the SATA supported OS like Windows Vista or Windows 7, or maybe can "forcely" put in the SATA driver in ur Windows XP setup CD.
