a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The unit is failing and is not worth repairing. There is either a short in the wiring that leads to the screen, the inverter board os failing, or the decoder is failing. These are all hardware problems.
There are several tests to find where the problem may be, but the average consumer doesn't have the ability or access to parts to fix these issues.

Here's how I've solved same symptoms with our NS -PDVD8a:
1. Cleaned laser optics with isopropyl alcohol/swap --make sure you let the optics dry/IPA evaporate from the optics before running
2. Using compressed air can--cleaned laser track
3. Gently move laser along track several times - it seems laser is having most trouble at start of disc -- not sure it needs lubrication, but running it along track several times seems to have righted it
Had to do this a couple of times, but it's working now -- expect I will need to do this again -- no idea how long fix will work.

Unit needs to be returned for service under warranty. If not under warranty. You Must open the unit by removing all the screws on the bottom of the unit and use a small plastic pry bar to open the case around the space where the volume control is.slide the pry bar all around the case to open it.Becareful not to lose any of the switch cover that may fall off as you open the case. You must replace these covers exactly to operate the unit once reassembled. Check all rubber bumpers for hidden screws before trying to open the case. you must unlock the plastic locking mechanism all around the case. Then take apart the laser and motor assembly and disconnect all the wire straps and ribbon cables. Clean all these connectors with a contact cleaner by apply it to a cotton swab and cleaning. Try cleaning the laser with a cotton swab and Isopropyl alcohol. Put small amount of alcohol on swab and gently clean laser lens, Check transport for dirt and try cleaning the travel rails of the laser to remove dirt and grease and reapply a small amount of lithium grease to a swab . Lube the rails and ratching mechanism. Do all this with the utmost case, do not use to much grease or you will cause more problems..Use light gloves. do all the work with the cotton swabs. Check disc spindle and see if it is loose, if it is use a drop of super glue to to tighten the grip of the spindle to the motor shaft.Reassemble unit and put together in case put all screws back in unit and test unit on a level non vibrating surface. Use a clear disc from CD cases to check and see if laser is turning on and attempting to track normally. If this does not work attempt to polish laser head with soft foam material and non abrasive high gloss mirror or glass polish very carefully try to make the laser clear and shiney. Do not work to fast and do not push to hard on the laser or you will ruin the alignment.Slowly try to clear the lens of all discoloration. If all this fails try to buy a new laser mechanism from e-bay and replace your old one. Hope this helps you with your problem.
