Can I have an advise?

You need to install the drivers for the scanner and fax. They are separate installs. They should be on the CD that came with the printer. You can get them from Cannon's web site too.

Generally you don't need ink to fax. Like sending a email that the receiver needs to print. However some printers will lock up and nag about cartridge empty before they let you move a inch

What have you tried so far? I don't have a brother All-in-one printer but I have two others (Kodak and HP) that are wireless and fax work fine.

HP MULTI PRINTERS

This is a problem with most of these Fax Scanner Printers. You will always end up with a large file, like 10 mb for a simple file. I think no matter what you do with the scan, it is large.
Turn the color off and make it gray scale or black and white.
The best way that I have found it to work the best is a work around. Find a free fax service or one that is a few dollars a month. Hopefully you have a fax component on this and you can fax documents to the online service, it will turn that fax into a very nice PDF. You then configure the online fax service to email the to you. Now you can save for your records, rename it and email it to whomever you need.

NO! This is the best Fax Machine ever made ! Your scanner is dirty. You can do it yourself.

Remove 3 chrome screws on the left side cover
remove 1 chrome screw below the power cord on the back,

Pull the cover off.

Remove the green plug on the scanner carefully
Remove the 2 chrome screws. Pull the scanner out.

Clean the 2 mirrors throughly.

Reassemble.

More than likely all you have to do is go to HP.com, select Downloads and then drivers. You also need to know what operating system you are using. Different operating platforms use distinctly different drivers.

Only if you have fax software on your computer and scan an image to the computer to fax, otherwise you need a really long phone cable you can buy at Radio Shack or Best Buy.

If you are a MAC user You need to use the cd that came with the printer for mac and then it will work, otherwise it will only print, and the scanner won't work.
