my kid pushed a button on the cable box remote, now i cant see the words aroud the edges of the screen. yhe cable box remote does control the tv.

You will have to go to the setup on the LG50P.... and get to the picture resolution, For example your monitor settings should have the ablitiy to set up the 4:1 or 16:9 aspect ratio. The best is to set this at automatic ... usually the case on a 1080i or 1080p
