Oiling Bernina Deco 330

I purchased a Bernina Deco 330 in April. I have the manual but, it's not showing where to oil the machine. My husband and I have turned the machine upside down, looking for a place to oil it. Can you help me please.

Thank you,
Cindy White

Use only good quality clear sewing machine oil from your Bernina dealer--ask them which is the correct oil for your machine. The likely place to oil is in the hook area (see page 44 of the manual). Be sure to apply a drop or two every 8 hours of sewing time. If you know your machine, you may notice a change in sound when it needs lube. Oiling anywhere else could damage your machine.

Do NOT place lube in any holes (as previously suggested) in the bed or top of the machine. These are not oil ports. They are holes for fastening accessories to your machine, ie circular embroidery unit, binding units, seam guides, etc.

Newer machines do not need to be oiled. If there are tiny holes in the top of the bed and top of machine head over the moving parts, that is where you put a tiny drop of oil. Be sure to use a teflon type oil. Do not use WD40, that will gum up.

The tiny holes are where accessories are attached on this particular machine. This machine requires oiling only on the hook race.

SOURCE: top color thread showing on

Upper tension is too loose or lower tension is too tight. This might be a good thing. It depends upon how much it is pulling the thread under. A perfect tension on embroidery is about 2/3's lower thread and 1/3 upper thread showing on the bottom.

How can i get a manuel for Bernette 600 deco

Currently, I saw a Bernette 600 Deco manual for sale on eBay; also he Bernette 500 Deco manual is available for download on the Bernina site. Before I purchased one, I would call Bernina to see if they have one you can either download or purchase. Their number is 630-978-2500. I also found one for sale for about $14.00 here: Bernina Sewing Machine Manuals Instruction Manuals

Does the Deco 340 Embroidery Machine use .ART or .EXP?

According to the manual for the Bernette Deco 340, the machine only reads .EXP+ files. ART files need to be converted to the EXP file type using the Bernina Embroider Software. (Even the designs on the Studio Bernina CD need the ART files converted to EXP.)

The manual is available from the Bernina support site: http://www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-5/Machines-en/bernette-deco-en . The direct link to the manual is http://www.bernina.com/getdoc/c6cc51e0-d5e9-4cb1-a7be-f164c0f4fdff/deco340_EN_GZD . (Note: you will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to access the manual.)

I'm surprised that you were able to get any .art files to work until recently.

I hope this helps.

My Bernina Bernette 65 manual does not show how to oil it- do I need to?

If there is no oiling mentioned in the maintenance part of your manual then your machine probably has nylon gears and maybe an oiling wick - many of the new machines are built this way to reduce maintenance issues.

However, if you purchased it from a Bernina dealership, I would ask them that question. Your manual probably recommends you take it to an authorised dealer periodically for a service when they would lube the parts that need it.

My Janome local dealer told me to put a drop oil under the bobbin case in my 6500P every couple of months onto the wick or if it sounds a little noisy.
