Question about Sewing Machines

Open Question

Singer Touch-tronic 2000

My sewing machine has stopped sewing. I was hemming a pair of jeans, stopped sewing to open the free arm and when I started sewing it made a loud, buzzing/humming noise that wouldn't stop. I found the reset button on the bottom. The noise stopped only if the machine was off before pressing the button, holding the reset and turning the machine on at the same time. The stitch selector lights stopped coming on, it only sewed in reverse no matter how many times I pushed the button, and the needle bar stopped going up and down completely. It still makes the noise. Help!

SOURCE: Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine Stuck on Sewing Straight Stitch Only

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.

I was recently given my mother-in- law's Singer touch-tronic 2000 sewing machine. The needle bar does not work. What could the problem be. Please help me. Thank you

check with a singer service centre but some singers have a belt drive inside the case that works the needle bar mechanism
they are known to break
it is in side at the right hand end just behind the outside pulley

How to replace motor belt on singer 2ooo atens

I think you're referring to the Singer Athena 2000, a slant needle, touch and sew machine.

I don't have a service manual for that machine, but on all the machines that I have worked on, there are two belts near the hand wheel, and the tensioner is at the center--the part where both belts come together--and you can adjust it by loosening two Phillips screws.

However, before you attempt something like that, you will need the parts number, and I would purchase the service manual. You can get a part list free and purchase the service manual here. Singer Athena and Touch Tronic

Was this running ok, the poof?
There might be a reverse option on one of the selections switches.
If it has sat for a while, it might need servicing; gummed up inside.

How do you sew over a thick seam on a pair of jeans

You didn't mention your model, but there is a small jig you can buy that will lift up the presser foot to ride over the seam. It's called a "Jean-a-ma-jig," by Dritz, and It only costs around $5.00. You can probably find it at a local fabric store, or you can get it from eBay or Amazon.

Singer Touch-tronic 2000 makes loud humming/buzzing noise, stitch selector lights quit working, needle bar stopped moving.

Sounds like you've got a thread jam going on in the bobbin case area. Good cleaning and a new needle will probably fix it. See: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091202121550AAHxN8y

Sewing jeans hems

You need a couple of things. One is to flatten the seams before you try to sew them. One of the best is to spread the hems on a wooden cutting board or simiilar smooth surface and beat the hems flat with a flat faced hammer. This is an official sewing hammer: http://www.fashion-incubator.com/archive/tools_and_supplies/ and it will compress the fabric so it doesn't lift your presser foot up and let the tension off the top thread (which is what's causing your looping problem).

For crossing thick seams, you need a shim to keep the presser foot flat while sewing. These are usually called hump jumpers or jean-a-majigs, and are a couple of bucks. Or you can use a fold of fabric in the same way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbYenXIDaDk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKdW_vIZLBo

Alternatively, you can do the jeans hem alteration that pros will charge you more for (because it's "fashionable"), and it's also faster and easier. Often called Euro-hemming: http://www.sewmuchado.com/2011/06/tutorial-how-to-hem-jeans-and-keep-the-original-hem.html

I have a Singer Quantum model 9240. Whenever I sew hems on jeans and go over the thickest part of the hem (where the vertical seam of the leg meets) the thread jams underneath, making a jumbled mess. I...

The problem happens when the thickness of the fabric being sewn is uneven. You need to raise the rear of the presser foot so it is even with the front of the foot. There is a little tool called a "hump jumper" or "jean-a-ma-jig" that makes it easy to do. When you get to the hump place the tool at the back of the presser foot and sew slowly. The machine should do the rest and the tool will fall away when it's no longer needed.
