if you turn the timer on, is the dryer dead but the heat element coming on? if so, does the element turn off when you turn the timer to the off position?

SOURCE: dryer not going to cool down cycle, thermal fuse failed 2x

Most problems like this arise from air flow problems. You need to break down the dryer and clean out the lint. Including removal of the filter housing.making sure your outside vent is clear as well.If that fuse keeps blowing you especially need to remove and rinse out that filter housing.

SOURCE: maytag dryer model #mde6657byw wont heat replaced

Check the switch mounted on the motor. Two of the terminals are for the heater element operation. Other causes could be a faulty heat selector switch or timer. These components can be tested using a multimeter or ohmmeter and checking for continuity. A lack of continuity indicates a faulty switch. These are some items to consider. Hope this helped and best wishes.

SOURCE: Maytag electric dryer shuts off mid- cycle.

you have a weak or failing thermostat ,, you can check them by doing this Set your multimeter to the R X 1 setting. Take each of your meter's probes and touch one to each terminal. You are testing for continuity, and you should receive a reading of either zero or infinity. At room temperature, testing the thermostat should produce a reading of zero. But if a thermostat is tested when it is heated to its limit, a reading of infinity should be produced. be sure machine is unplugged before doing any electrical tests

Maytag dryer stops after few minutes

ELECTRIC Dryer no heat or little heat, or shuts down to fast:

Check your venting and lint basket. Check blower for lint build up and blower wheel obstruction., test by trying to turn the wheel manually by hand (should be easy) May have to remove cabinet or front/back plate to get to it)

Next check the heating element itself with a meter for continuity OHMS CLOSED CIRCUIT. If not its defective.

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage. 220 because if u only get half or 110 volts you will be able to run the machine which uses only 110 to run motor but not the heater which uses a full 220,

Check the thermal cut off, the cycling and the hi limit thermostats.
For continuity or OHMS. If no ohms or resistance they need replacement.

Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle.

The Dryer stopped and will not start again

Just had a similar problem with our Maytag Electric Dryer. The dryer shut off mid-cycle and wouldn't start again, but the timer kept running. We purchased a "Thermal fuse replacement kit" at a local appliance parts store for $38 and replaced the fuse ourselves. The dryer is running great! Here's a couple of website links that were helpful in figuring out out how to replace the fuse: http://www.partselect.com/repair.aspx?appliance=dryer&part=replace-thermal-fuse

Hope this helps!

Dryer doesnt work but i hear the timer working

Change your cycling thermostat. When your cycling thermostat fails, then the reponsibility of your heating element to shut down goes to the high-limit thermal shut off (closest to heat element) and the thermal fuse. Your cycling thermostat should shut down heat element when it detects about 140* air in the blower housing. Yours can't detect that anymore so it lets your dryer heat up and up till you blow the thermal. new cycling thermostat and thermal

Dryer does not start - Thermal Fuse is ok.

Good to know, when the appliance does not start at all is always thermal fuse, wiring, door lock switch, or rarely the control assembly.

Have a nice day.
