Question about Dell OptiPlex GX270 PC Desktop

Dell Optiplex GX270 - Freezes up!

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270. It keeps freezing on me within 5 minutes of logging on. I've tried: System Restore, Disk Clean Up, Defragging, Webroot Antivirus, a new surge protector, I also installed a new power supply. I tried to do the PC Restore that Dell's website says should work but no matter how many times I restart the computer and press ctrl+F11 I get nothing. Any suggestions?

You may have either a memory chip gone bad or the CPU overheating. Withot seeing it and testing it's hard to tell you which. But one thing you can try is if you have 2 RAM installed, try to remove 1 and see if the problem continues. If so, change them and put the one you removed back and remove the other. if it continues then you may have an overheating problem.

Otherwise, you can try a SCANDISK and DEFRAG to clean up the hard drive and data.

You're going to have to reformat with a Windows CD or the restore CD that it came with. If you don't have the restore CD it came with, then you won't be able to restore it unless you buy a new windows disk for it. Keep it mind, it's an older model of computer.

I can't get my Dell Optiplex GX270 to communicate with my modem

You might be lacking your System BUS and Chipset drivers. Your chipset controls your outbound hardwares (that includes Ethernet). If you still ever had your Resource CD, that may come in handy for your drivers are in there. If not, what you could do is to download all necessary drivers using different PC and I assume you have any media to transfer the files (e.g. Flash drives, SD cards, ... others), from there copy the file in ant directory you want.

Follow the file on that Directory you created from the downloaded files.

Order of installation should be:
1) Chipset
2) Audio
3) Communications(modem)
4) Network (Ethernet/LAN/Wireless)
5) Input Devide Drivers
6) IDE & EIDE Controllers

you may have to skip installing others drivers if you already have it.

To check what drivers that are missing just press "Win + Pause Break" buttons. On "System Properties" window click the "Hardware" tab then "Device Manager" button.

On Device Manager look for a the ones that are not installed are that with a yellow triangle icon.

Hope this helps.

I bought a Dell Optiplex gx270 off Ebay. Where can I find a full restore disk?

Get right back on eBay and put it in search. There are restore CD's for practically all computers. Best prices too.
