Every time I boot my EEE PC the touchopad is disabled. I plug in a USB mouse, enable the Elan smartpad through the properties of the Elan smartpad and it works ok until I reboot again. How do I enable it...

Usually there is a FN key that will enable the touchpad. I have EEPC and mine is the little blue FN key (usually next to the CTRL and Windows Key) + one of the number keys. Look for a little blue symbol that looks like your touchpad.

As for it being disabled every time you start, I find that very weird. Sometimes installing a wireless mouse, installs software that tells the system to disable the touchpad, so that the 2 don't conflict when using the mouse.

Dell latitude d430. how to disable elan smart pad

To disable the pad completely, at the top of the keyboard there should be a button to disable it. If not, there might be a combination of Fn and an F1-12 key that enables and disables it.

If you're looking just to disable the gestures "Zooming", "Scrolling, etc. Go to Start>Control Panel>Mouse and then click the Elan tab and click the "Options" button below. From there, you should have access to all the settings.

My elan touchpad is not working. the mouse will not move unless i plug in an external mouse

There is a FN + Key (F9 for me) Hotkey to disable the elan touchpad on ASUS Laptops.
This might be the problem if someone activated it by accident.
Also the correct drivers might be missing.
You can get the latest drivers on ASUS Homepage

How do I disable the mouse pad on my ASUS K52F Lap top? I prefer the remote mouse but I keep touching the mouse pad when I type and the cursor just goes someplace else.

Hey man had the same prob but found how to fix it :). go to control panel click hardware and sound. then you will see devices and printers, under that will be, add device, add a printer, mouse. Click mouse! Then click the tap ELAN, there is a box to check, it says, "Disable when external USB mouse plug in". there you go. Hope that help.
