How to hard reset or factory reset T-Mobile G1 phone

Hard reset or Factory reset will restore the phone back to its factory settings; the way it was when it was first bought or the way it was when it left the factory.
Note that this will erased the entire phone's memory (NOT memory card) and settings to the way it was when it was first bought.

How to hard reset or factory reset T-Mobile G1 phone:

  1. Switch off your G1. *If it won't your phone won't switch off, take out the battery and reinsert it after a few seconds.
  2. Now press the 'Power' key and 'Home' key at the same time and hold it for 20-25 seconds.
  3. Then you will see on your screen a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle.
  4. After that, press 'Alt+L' key on the QWERTY keyboard (to clean the phone completely).
  5. Next, press 'Alt+W' key (to factory reset it)
  6. Again, press and hold 'Power' key and 'Back' key at the same time for 20-25 seconds.
  7. The reset is complete.

How to reset the phone to factory setting

If your phone is a G1 below are the steps to do a hard reset, if that is not your phone then i need the model of the of your phone to give you the correct instructions:
-Turn the G1 off. If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.--Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle.
Now to wipe the device clean:
Press Alt+L.
Press Alt+W for a factory reset.
Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds. The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.

My Rogers G1 won't load beyond the HTC logo screen, it just keeps repeating. I've tried removing power, not wanting to factory reset. :(

Don't bother the factory reset. You will need to get a new one. I'm sorry for your device is broken

After reset , cannot login to gmail

I guess you have factory reset the phone and it swap out everything.

The G1's much-vaunted first step during the setup is to enter your Google login username and password. Once that happens, the G1 attempts to connect to Google's servers to get your email, contacts, and calendar set up.
Here's the thing, though, if (or when) the G1 cannot connect to the servers, you're done. There is no way to exit out of the Google setup screen, no clear way to reset the phone to bypass it (even in "safe mode"), no way to turn on WiFi.
