How do I drop the deck on a 42 inch riding Poulon lawn mower

Look to each side of the deck just in front of the rear tires. You will see an spring clip on each side. Remove these clips. There is also a clip on the front of the deck, remove it as well. Remove the belt and the deck will slide out from under the tractor.

Craftsman riding mower will not start

Same thing happened to me with my 26 horse kohler craftsman. Replaced EVERYTHING (spark plug, fuel filter, oil filter, and degunked the carborator), and still was flooding. It ended up being the flywheel key. Cheap part, quick fix. I guess it can happen when you hit something hard with the deck, or it can just happen without reason... I hit a snowbank hard with my snowblower attachment, but I didn't even realize it until afterwards because it kept running fine. Supposedly, even after the strain to the engine, it won't always stall out. It will keep running (but maybe rougher) until you shut it off. Then when you go to start it again, you will have no luck because all the timing is out of whack. It cost me $80 to have a repair company fix it. I think the part was only $5.

It is firing from the spark plug but will not attempt to start . this is a poulon pro 42cc chainsaw.

Try a squirt of starting fluid in the plug hole, replace the plug and try to start. If you get a pop or two, then you have fuel problems. Make sure you have fresh fuel mix in the tank. Check the condition of all fuel lines including the in-tank line plus the fuel filter for plugging. Check the muffler and air cleaner for plugging. Does the engine seem to have good compression? If everything looks ok, then it may be time to disassemble the carburetor, clean and re-kit it. Set both needle jet screws initially at 1-1/2 turns out CCW from the CW stops (lightly). The engine should start and run--allow to warm up. Pull the throttle full on and adjust H CW until the engine runs faster, but is still 4-stroking. The correct adjustment is for the engine to 4-stroke, but immediately 2-stroke when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L CW for fairly smooth running, yet allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Set idle speed screw to stop the chain from turning at idle, but keeps the engine running. Hope some of this helps!
