This depends on if the computer is using IDE, SATA or Solid State. For the most part, computers anymore use SATA. You will want to check to see what kind of hard drive the computer currently has. Sometimes you have the option of adding both IDE and SATA drives.

Acer aspire 5534 hard drive compatability.

As with any laptop the Hard drive usually comes with a Pre-installed version of Windows. Best bet is to call Acer and get a price for a replacement. Depending on the maker putting a different type of hard drive is not allow because the recovery discs they give you will only run on certain hard drives due to a detect program that is built into the discs. This is not necessarily true for all makes models and brands but both Acer and Dell in my experiance do this for win 7 machines

I have a T6212 where it had been unplugged for a month or two. As i was hooking it back up, I plugged the power cord in first where, as soon as contact was made the unit sparked and smoked. The unit...

Let's start with the smoke first; probably the pc received an overload and the power unit burned. No big deal. You can buy a PC power unit from 30 bucks all the way to the hundreds. It comes with instruction. Just open PC's main cover disconnect all cables and recycle the burned unit. Here's the link from amazon for a cheap one.
Now if you want to take the hard drive off, also you can do that, disconnect all cables from the hard drive and purchase the cable kit to transfer all data to another computer. Here's the link for the cables:
Good Luck!

My T6212 crashed. I replaced the hard drive with a new one but the installation process for Windows XP (and Ubuntu) starts but then hangs. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thank you for your help...

If you have multiple memory sticks(RAM), try using only 1 memory stick(at least 246MB of RAM) for the installation. It could be the memory causing the problem.

Hope this helps! :D

E-machine t6212 won't boot. I actually have two e-machines that are not sending a signal to the monitor. One is a t6212. It is booting up because I can shut it down using the windows key + up arrow +...

If you get only one BEEP at boot then the computer is working..

Do you have a 2nd monitor to test with?

if it BEEPS more then once...
pull out your mem chips and test,,
If itt works them one of the mem chips are bad if not..
pull out all pci cards and test.. if it works its a bad card...
if not unplug all HD and CD roms and test.......

If not fixed yet it maybe a onboard video problem...

But IF you put a video card in b4 the problem started then your bios may have auto set it sellf to PCI/AGP mode.

Check bios setings,, look for onbord setings for the video

I lost all my photos and the drive doesn't work anymore. help

Once these bad boys go bad.
You usually have to reformat them.
BUT this would certainly destroy any chance of reviving old photo's.
Try putting the stick into another USB port.
Even on another machine.

You may get lucky and have the photo's re-appear.
Copy quickly to another safe drive/CD what ever.
There are two different types of USB ports 1.0 and 2.0.

Good luck!

Cd/dvd burning drive ''e'' does not identify an empty disk for burn

When your computer is in POST have you tried entering your CMOS to check that your system is actually recognizing that the drive is physical? If not try that and then check to make sure that the jumpers on the drives are set properly and then reinstall your software and this should correct your problem. Good Luck
