Question about Kodak EASYSHARE V1253 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Kodak v1253 won't start

I have the same problem. Bought the camera in december of 2007.
6 months later sent in for service for the lens not opening. Kodak couldn't/wouldn't fix and sent a "replacement" camera. That camera also quit working. Kodak then said that the "warranty" was 1 month from the date of fix, or 1 year from date of original purchase.

They offered 2 equally galling options. 1) pay $110 to get it fixed by the same people that couldn't fix my original camera 2) buy a new camera for a 25% discount!

If anyone has ideas of a fix, sounds like a common problem unfortunately.

Assuming that you have fresh or fully charged batteries installed, chances are that the problem is corroded battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and clean the inside contacts with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper. Remove any residue that's in the camera from the cleaning, then reinstall your batteries. Hopefully this will cure the problem and get the camera back up and working the way it should.

If that doesn't do the trick, you might want to try your luck with the Kodak Troubleshooting guide at:

My problem is that the lens stays open, all the lights flash, I hear a very low set of tones and then it shuts off. I recharged the batter and tried all the fixes except taking it apart

Sounds like a stuck lens. Happens to V1253 / V1233 often. These lens can't stand dust, dirt or sand. The lens has to be taken apart and cleaned. It's not very easy, also it involves some soldering. I suggest you give it to a local repair shop (if you think it's worth it). I could offer you a repair, but I'm in Germany.
I have worked at a Kodak service center as a technician.

Easy share V1253...will not stay on...lens will not telescope

I have had the same issue were the lens would not retract. took it in for extended warranty work. lens now retracts but takes lousy pictures.

When I purchased this camera family members ran out and bought thiers shortly after I did. One by one the same issue has happend to their v1253's.

I dissmantled one and found that there is a tiny battery on the power board inside of the camera. apparently the tiny battery's life is about 1 1/2 years. This battery is not serviceable as it is welded in place. I am not one hundred percent sure if this is the cause but it makes sense.

It would be nice if kodak would own up to this issue and make good on repairs as they did with my kodak 5500 all-in-one printer and it's crappy print head. Kodak has sent me 4 print heads in the 2 years I have owned it.

I have 5 of the v1253's in my family and every one of the are dead. I would think a $250 product should last longer than 1 1/2 years.
Hope this helps you out.

V1253 Kodak Lens stuck open, will not power on

hi...The transmission system that moves the lens in and out has a problem with it's gears. There is most likely a gear or an actuator that has fallen out of alignment and is getting stuck at a certain point as the lens comes in/out.There is some disturbacnce of the lens arrangement that is preventing the lens from coming in/out.
Any of these symptoms above could trigger the camera to shut itself off to protect itself from further damage.
thank u rate me!!!

Lens jammed on a kodak v1253

I fixed my v1253 following these steps:
1. Pulled the battery when the lens starts to come out before it could power itself off.
2. Gently pull the telescope out until it clicks.
3. Use a fine tip paint brush to clear debris out of the cracks.
Camera works just fine now.

FIRST CHARGE YOUR BATTERY OVERNIGHT AND THEN REMOVE YOUR BATTERY FOR ABOUT 10 MINS PUT BATTERY BACK YOU HAVE TO ADJUST THE DATE AND TIME AFTER DATE EVERYTHING WILL BE OK BUT IF YOU ARE USING 9 OR HIGHER MEGAPIXEL YOUR BATTERY WILL BE DRAIN IN THREE TO FOUR HOURS.
