About 61 PSIG or 33 Degrees F. If you look at the gauge on your refrigeration manifold it will give you the numbers. What is Max, it changes with temperature and humidity and without very involved controls the absolute max will not be realized over the normal ambient operating range. Good Luck

Many of these consumer units use low grade copper for their refrigeration connections. The oil is a sure fire indicator of your seemingly correct diagnosis. Unless you have the proper refrigeration tools to repair and recharge the unit it may not be cost effective to try for a repair, as if this is the issue another leak is likely to occur. Many of these units come with 5 year compressor warranties though, so a quick check to make sure the leak is in the refrigerant piping and not on the compressor itself may be worthwhile. If your warranty has not run out it could be beneficial to find the exact source of the leak.

We just bought a new Friedrichs dehumidifier for our damp basement. The temp is reading 81 and the humidity 63 and it's been running for 2 hours. The basement is about 1000 sq feet and the outdoor temp...

Iris, all dehumidifiers generate some heat while in operation. However, it may be generating higher temps because of it's location. Dehumidifiers don't work well in temperatures below 65 degrees, In fact they struggle below that temp. Unless it's a Low Temperature unit, designed specifically for basement applications.

For example, the ambient air temperature never changes more than 10 degrees F throughout the year.
The air temperature at floor level (where the dehumidifier is placed) is colder then the air temperature at shoulder level. Raising the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight of the unit, plus a bull bucket of water, will generally solve the problem.

Be sure to clean the air intake filter regularly. At least once every 2 weeks. And wipe off the cabinet and the front louvers, when you change the filter. Always, turn the unit OFF & Unplug it, before removing the filter. Never operate the unit without the filter in place. Doing so could cause damage to the unit.

I hope this information has helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have to agree with you. I don't see the need for the dehumidifier either. As the AC unit alone, does have some dehumidifying capability.

Your customer would be better served using an independent Low Temp dehumidifier in the basement. If that's the area they are trying to dehumidify because of dampness in the basement.. It certainly would be less costly to operate. But, any unit that is not a Low Temp unit won't work well in a basement.

I hope this helps and good luck convincing your customer of this.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

What is the proper setting for the Temp &Humidity?

Set the temp level at whatever point your home's temperature is now. Lower the humidity level to 35%. If you don't have an LED screen on your unit, set the manual control to maximum. This way, you will extract the maximum amount of humidity and make your home more comfortable.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

The 54501 dehumidifier i have is 4 years old it worked good last year and I remember turning down or up the humiity setting, now this year I don't seem to be able to get it to pull any water. I had it...

There are 5 basic, but solvable reason for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you have a manual unit with
no led screen, set the manual control to Maximum.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter. The filter should be cleaned once every two weeks.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
Most dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
level
in basement applications . Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

Hope this helps you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Alan, it may simply be a case of several things, that can easily corrected at home.

1. The Humidity Extraction Level is set to High. Lower it to 32-35%.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Remove, inspect the filter and clean if necessary. It it's a
Washable Filter, allow it to thoroughly dry before reinstalling it.

3. Obstructed Air Flow. A minimum of 12" to 18" clear air around the entire unit, must be
maintained.

4. The ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees F. This is particularly true in
basement applications. The air temp at floor level is colder than the air temp at shoulder level.
Dehumidifiers don't work well in that temperature range (Unless, it's a Low Temp model). Raise
the unit up off the floor on to a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight of the
unit, plus a full tank of water.

If you troubleshoot the 4 things listed above, it may quickly solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

You must be qualified and licensed to work on a sealed system with R22 And it's not the PSI that matters. If the evaporator is leaking, get a new dehumidifier.

You need to have the r22 charged... As stated above, if its low on r22 then it will ice up... no dehumidifier should ice up.... call a repair guy or better yet, buy another one... good luck.
