You will need to purchase the CD Key from Microsoft. But seeing as they just reached End-Of-Life with Windows XP, they probably won't sell you one. You will need to get Windows Vista or later.

Or use a free operating system like Linux (Ubuntu is a popular one)

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Lost Product Key for Windows XP Service Pack 2 Installation cd

The product key is on the folder in which the genuine software disk was shipped to the buyer. MS Service Packs do not change the key nor should they require you to reinstall the key.
You have a pirated version of XP software and even with a key it will not pass Microsoft validation. It will be quickly disabled by Microsoft and you'll be left with a black screen.
You need to get a valid copy of the software.

WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 HOME EDITION 2002. 0304 PART NO. X10-52220 LOST PRODUCT KEY/NEED IT PLEASE!

There is no way to retrieve that information. For the most part it's like losing cash.
There are some product key retrieval programs like Product Key Explorer or Belarc Advisor, but you have to have the system up and running.

Can not find Windows Product Key Number on Computer. I have Internet Explorer 9.

If you cannot find the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label on your computer case, then you may be able to discover what license key was used when Windows Vista was installed by downloading and installing a copy of the free Belarc Advisor inventory utility.

When you run Belarc Advisor it will analyse your software and hardware inventory and display a web page (from your local hard drive) giving details of any license keys found for Windows and Office products.

Please note that the license key shown may not be one that you could use to re-install Windows if it was from a commercial version of Windows used to build a series of different computers. Belarc Advisor will add a foot-note to the license key if it thinks that is possible.

Want to find software license key number from computer.

If you can't find it by right-clicking My Computer and going to Properties, you can use Belarc Advisor. Once you open Belarc Advisor it creates a profile of your system. Once this is generated, simply scroll down and find the region listing software and their associated license keys. Next to the Windows XP entry will be your license key.

Let us know how things turn out, or if we can offer further assistance.

You may need to check to see which "service pack" you are currently on.

See below requirements:

System Software — Windows XP & Vista
  • Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Edition
    • 32-bit OS Installation Only
  • Windows XP Professional or Home Edition
    • With Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3

  • Not Supported:
    • Windows Vista 64-bit (any version)
    • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
    • Windows XP Media Center Edition
    • Windows 98, Me, 2000, NT, 95, 3.1, DOS

  • Not Tested:
    • Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Edition
    • Although Windows Vista Home and Home Premium Edition have not been tested or qualified by Digidesign, there are currently no known issues with Vista Home and Home Premium 32-bit operating systems and Pro Tools M-Powered 7.4 compared to the supported Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Edition operating systems.

Windows Vista SP1
There are currently no known issues with Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista based on our initial limited testing and customer feedback. Although full qualification with all Digidesign products has not been completed, we do not recommend against updating to SP1, given the number of important overall system fixes in SP1. We do recommend that you backup your system and create a restore point before updating to SP1, should you encounter any problems after installing the update.
