Question about Nikon D40 Digital Camera with G-II 18-55mm Lens
Recently I noticed a fine red line near the bottom left corner of every photo taken with my 2 year old Nikon D40. I took it to Nikon (Malaysia) and they wanted RM750 to replace the CCD. I told them to go fly @#%, for RM750, I can probably get a new body. When I took back my D40, they kept my non refundable RM20 deposit. Lesson # 1. Never send your Nikon back to them after the warranty period. Lesson # 2. Think twice before buying a Nikon.
What I did with my D40 ?- Nothing. I can live with the red line for the time being. Probably, give it away to some kid later and get a Canon or Olympus or Pantex or even Sony but not another Nikon.
And your question was?
A new CCD for £128 - that is a total bargain. If you think you can buy a camera half as good as the D40 for RM750 you are deluded... although I agree that the CCD shouldn't have gone in such a short time - I would guess that Nikon UK would have repaired it on good faith - as long as the camera was obviously in otherwise good condition.
