Speaker is blown or amp channel is. Swap channel connections from a to b, etc, and test channel again. If it doesn't clip you have your answer. If it still clips out, your amp has a blown channel.

My subwoofer doesn't receive power, all amp fuses are fine, amp powers on, remote wire and rca wires are connected and intact. Before it stopped working all together the woofer would cut out and after...

If you are getting power to the amp, try this....Find a small speaker, unhook your sub and wire speaker to amp. Turn on your system at a low volume....If the other speaker is playing through amp, then your sub is shot.....If the small speaker doesnt work, then its either your channel is gone on the amp or the rcas have quit off off your head unit.

You may want to check valve clearance, sounds borderline. You should have 11/1000s on the exhaust valve. The exhaust is usually the culprit, since it runs hotter.

Overloads with volume a third od the way up,i have 2 12 inch cerwin vegas hooked to it

fan_of_tony,
There is not much info in your question to properly answer it but here are a few things.

1) The VSX-D307 is a home receiver that is rated for no less than a 4 ohm load. If you have two 12" 4 ohm CV subs on the same channel and they are in parallel, that would create a 1.7 ohm load which would easily cause the problem.

2) If you have one on each channel connected along with speakers that are for you mids and highs, the way they are connected could be reducing the resistance load the amp will see which would easily cause the problem.

3) If you have one on each channel and no other speakers the problem would be simply that your speakers can use more power than the amp can produce. Thus you are able to raise the volume of the amp passed it's maximum output which would cause the amp to clip and the amp will go into overload protection.

4) Your receiver has an 8 ohm rated amp. Which means it can run at 4 ohms but the amp will produce more power at lower volumes on the knob setting and will max out at lower levels than if you were using a 8 ohm speakers.

In short, CV's can use a lot of power and your receiver, regardless of advertised power levels, cannot give the speakers what you are looking for in sound levels. Buy a larger dedicated amp for the CV's as the clipping from your Pioneer receiver is doing damage to your CV's. Your speaker's can hear the clipping before your ears can so damage will start to occur before your ears can hear the clipping.

Gem Sound clipping problem

First of all the EXA-3940 is rated at 350watts per channel in to 8 ohms. The 1400 watts is bridged into a 4 ohm load. Second, the speakers can handle 1000Wats peak with an average of 600 continuous (i'm guessing). That tells me that the amp is underpowered for the speakers. The sensitivity of the amp is such that the mixer is overdriving the input stage. That is what is causing the clipping. If you are looking for more volume, you are probably better off purchasing another amp and running them in bridge mode, 1 per speaker cab. Be careful though, not to overdrive the speaker cabinets either.

Stereo Tech: Sounds like you definitly have a broken solder connection on the main PC board. A bad solder connection is tricky to find somtimes if one is not familiar with exactly what it looks like (kinda like mt st helens with a ring around the top) if you attempt this yourself DO NOT MAKE A SOLDER BRIDGE you will open pandoras box. Good luck

Clipping amp

hi first disconnect all spks, then turn on the amp. if amp power lite stays on bright then proceed to connect one speaker or sub to the amp. if the amp lite dims during any spk connections then it may be that the spk is faulty or there is a DC voltage (dc offset) emitting thru that particular channel. also check all spk impedance before reconnecting them to the amp. cheers.

Front speaker channel cut off

I lean toward an overhating condition since the unit does not go into protection mode right away, and then returns.

My thoughts are as follows...

1) The receiver needs better ventilation

2) The speakers are below the rated minimum nominal impedance, causing the amplifier to strain and overheat

3) There is a problem within the amplifier that is causing this problem - this is not user repairable.

I'd try another pair of speakers which are rated at 8 ohm nominal impedance and give it a trial. At the same time, monitor the heat output from the unit (note that modern amplifier sections do run hot). If the unit runs extremely hot at a low volume and still shuts down on 8 ohm speakers, it's time for service or replacement depending on value.
