There's corrosion on my battery in my camera

I left my camera out on my dresser for quiet a long time. When I went to use it the inside had corrosion on the contacts and battery. I don't know what else to do. I've tries picking off the corrosion with cotton swabs, but it didn't work very well. Anyone have an answer for me?

You can try using alcohol pad and a piece of plumbing sand paper (or any fine grit sanding paper with cloth backing). Make sure you get all corrosion off of battery and contacts to camera. After using alcohol pad wipe down with a dry cloth to remove any residue.

Canon Powershot A530 camera died. Worked fine yesterday and then went to take a picture and the lens extended then the camera died.

If the camera has recently been dropped you may have lens damage that's preventing it from powering up. If it hasn't been dropped your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera - which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then clean the battery contacts, place the batteries back in the camera and give them a full charge (assuming that you're using rechargeable batteries). This cleaning clears the problem about 80% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, it may time to replace the batteries, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

I made the mistake of buying another Kodak camera and this one is only 9 month old and only used 3 time in that time. When you turn it on it turns right off. I put in new battery and the same thing...

Batteries tend to deteriorate and leak over time, especially if left in a camera when it's not used for several months. Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera and give them a full charge (assuming that you are using rechargeable batteries). This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

My lithium ion battery will not recharge

How long was the battery left in a flat condition?
Usually a flat battery does not damage the camera unless the dead battery leaks fluid inside the camera and causes corrosion problems.
Try a new battery and check the charger with a multi-meter, the voltage of the charger should be slightly higher then the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the charger.

The problem you describe is frequently due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the inside contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe the ends of the batteries and replace them in the camera. This clears up the problem about 90% of the time -- I hope it works for you.

Turn on camera

This problem is frequently due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the inside contacts with a soft dry cloth (a heavy corrosion buildup may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper). Remove any cleaning residue from inside the camera, then clean and reinsert the batteries. This clears the problem about 90% of the time.
