Question about Televison & Video
I have a Toshiba TP50F61 that works great except that after the TV has been on for an hour or 2 the picture will just go black. Sound and all else keeps working. If you shut the TV off for a few hours it will work fine again untill it seems to get warm and then again shut down.....any ideas?
To me it sounds like a power supply board problem...some componet is breaking down intermitly ...that is a hard problem to fix, finding the board should be easy, but buying the board, replacing it, and still the posibily it be something else is really difficult..

After 11 years???? OMG This set is a tired pup and should be put to reast. My experience with older sets and your complains are all capacitor problems and is only gonna get worse as the first time around repair will take several capacitors to repair. This set has no user serviceable parts inside so you should not attempt a repair suchj as this on your own.. This repair if you decide to go through the first time will be About 300 to 600 bucks the first time and cost will continue to raise till the sets put to sleep. Good luck

Take out the bulb (back left hatch door) look to see if the element inside the bulb is broken or blackened - (replace bulb) if the bulb looks OK then it's the ballast that fires the bulb (service call).

It sounds like your rptv lamp is going out. If this is an older DLP this is most likely the cause. You can get a replacement at www.laptopsforless.com part number BP96-00224J for $151. If the tv is still under warranty, I would have them do it, otherwise replace it yourself. If so here is a link to give you step by step instruction. Please give me a good rating. ;-)

SOURCE: tv shuts down
does the main board have the flyback on it? if so the yokes or CRTs can be intermittently shorting which in turn triggers your shut-down.
turning it off or unplugging just resets the shut down circuit.
