Question about FUJIFILM FinePix S8500 16MP Digital Camera Black Package1

1 Answer

Won't turn on

The camera just will no longer turn on. New Batteries, but doesn't turn on. If I start while holding [DISP/BACK] it will start ready for Firmware update but that is all. I haven't tried the Firmware update as I'm scared it will be worse.

Worse than what? If the firmware needs an update, chances are it couldn't get any worse if it's not turning on at all. However, list the make and model number, and I will try to research it for you.

If the camera won't turn on, check the batteries, or connect the camera to an AC adapter. If that doesn't work, remove all batteries, disconnect the AC adapter, wait a minute, reinsert batteries and reconnect the adapter.
If the flash doesn't work, the camera won't take pictures, or the screen keeps turning off, check that the batteries are strong.

Yes it is. Press the DISP button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries.

The view screen in the back oc camera has stopped working. It only works when reviewing photos taken. Can anything be done?

Think that you might have just accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.

Don't hit it. With the camera on, have you tried pressing the DISP button once? It's the bottom button on the back of your camera.

As a side note, the DISP button was intended for digital cameras with an optical viewfinder (something the SD750 and newer elphs no longer have). The idea was to allow the user to manually turn the display on or off as desired to save batteries, and then just aim the camera through the viewfinder. I'm curious as to Canon's justification for including this button on their newer cameras that do not have a viewfinder?
