CMOS batteries last at least twenty years. Why is it that people get so enchanted with mother Board and BIOS. That area of a computer is the most delcate and you guys hit it with hammers and scredrivers. On the serious side, the clues you gave me seem to be that the registry has been tampered with. I think (and I have been wrong so many times) you need a re-installation of the windows. When you do this push the "R" on the second time and you will be charged with one windows install. I never paid any attention and I had to buy a new disk for windows... Thank you for your consideration and your choice to choose our service. My name is Constantin (arzconst is my internal nickname for Fixya.com).

00602-003 error

Your hard disk needs to be replaced!! E602-003 is a bad sector read on the hdd, if you restart the machine it may work for a while but it WILL come back.

You need canon part number WM2-5230-000 (not sure how you would get it) it needs to be installed in the back of the machine at the top of the main body after the back cover has been removed.. Once this is done you dilemma begins, Canon uses a program called "service support tool (SST)" which is only a canon issued program, this program is the tool used to update all the software and firmware in iR devices. This can only be connected to a 2200 machine via usb to centronics cable with a "nethawk driver" driving the cable. Then SST need to have the firmware for the 2200 series registered (it does not come together) within SST, then connect cable and turn the machine on at the switch on the right hand side WHILE holding keys 2 & 8 together, this will give you a black screen which only shows "DOWNLOAD MODE" in the lower part of the screen. Then the machine is ready to accept the data. SST is extremely touchy, so if anything is not right you will get a lovely pink screen in SST saying an error code. To correctly set up the hard drive you must first format the HDD from within SST, then install the BOOT and SYSTEM versions (boot must be "N" at the end of it's version eg. 37.44N to be a printer or a stand alone copier will have a "C" at the end. You must pick the right one or you will not be able to print (if it has a PCL kit installed in the machine).

After all Boot, system, language, fax versions are installed restart the machine, wait for a couple of minutes intil all that data is written to the HDD and it will pup up ready to go.

Hope this helps......biggrin.png

How do you flash the BIOS

What happens when you turn the computer on?

If the bios is working enough to enable you to boot from a CD download the new bios from asus along with there AFUDOS.exe flash utility and make a bootable CD and copy both to it.

If the bios is completly none functional you should be getting this msg when you turn the computer on,
Boot Block Compatible Version Ver .010
Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS Recovery
Checking for floppy . .
Floppy not found
Checking for CD rom . . .
CD not found
Checking for floppy . .
Floppy not found
Checking for CD rom . . .
CD not found

Repeat adinfinitum.
If this is the case you need download the most recent BIOS from compaq and either copy it to a bootable CD if you have this capability or buy a floppy drive for $5 and make a bootable floppy on a working computer and copy this BIOS file to it. Then rename the bios file to A8N32SLI.ROM.

You may not even need make the floppy bootable but I would just in case.

Stick the floppy in the drive turn the computer on and you will see

Boot Block Compatible Version Ver .010
Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS Recovery
Checking for floppy . . .
Floppy found.
Reading file "A8N32SLI.ROM" . Completed.
Start Erasing...
Start programing . . ./
Please turn off your system and power on again to get system back.

and happy days will be here.

BAD BIOS CHECKSUM, STARTING BIOS RECOVERY...

I have seen this be a CMOS battery many times. Also, you can try flashing the BIOS if you continue to have troubles after replacing the battery. You should be able to find that information on the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Try to go to safe mode choose system restore. If you cant get through it. Unplug your power cable. Then its time to open your pc ground yourself with anti static pad b4 touching it to the computer.
