Question about Frigidaire Freezers

1 Answer

Above set point temperature

Often the temperature in the freeze shows 10-20 deg F when it is set at -1. It's is a stand up professional series with side by side. Does this have a auto defrost feature or is there something wrong?

Since I last posted, it seems to be working fine, could it be that since the freezer cools the fridge temperature and the fridge is opened too much, it would raise the freezer temperature?

Any excesive door opening will cause frosting. The high temp experienced may have been during a defrost cycle, or because the defrost hadn't cleared all the ice and you were getting a lack of air over the evaporator.

Good day. My Samsung fridge/freezer SR-S22FTFB runs normal for the first few hours when been switched on, both fridge and freezer temperatures were set for (- 18 and 2), both fans are running and when

Hello Danie;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The normal setting for a freezer is -2 to +2 degrees F., and the normal setting for the fresh food section is +35 to +40 degrees F.

You only have one source of cooling and that is your freezer. With the settings that you have, you are asking your unit to do what it is not designed to do.

The ice maker is struggling because if it is a cast steel ice cube mold, the heater beneath it is not designed for the current to break the ice cubes free @ -18 degrees F., or if you have a plastic flex ice cube mold it is too ridged to flex enough to break the ice cubes free. Normally your ice maker should dump 8-10 times in a 24 hour period.

A note on food storage. Make sure you do not overload your freezer of fresh food section to the point where food product extends beyond the edge of the shelves.

I need the owners manual for the estate chest freezer model no. tcf1510ew00, or if someone could just tell me the temp settings for each number? it shows on the side that 4 is i guess the freezing point...

The numbers are generic and don't mean a thing. They are there to make you feel like you have control. Anything under 1 should be very much frozen. If it is not then you have T-stat problem and should address that. Chest freezers run at -25f on average if the freezer has enough product in it. The more food in the freezer the better and more efficiently it will run.

Freezer not freezing

Hi b_sivado,

When a stand alone freezer unit is having temperature issues there are not many troubleshooting steps you can try on your own before contacting a professional. These units are as electrical as refrigerators, however you can try to unplug the unit or turn the household circuit breaker off to it for about five minutes. Then retry the unit. Make sure nothing is blocking the air vents within the unit for proper air circulation. If you hear any abnormal noises contact your manufacturer or a service professional immediately. Often the compressor, evaporator fan or coil will begin to go out and cause temperature issues in a small amount of time. Please let me know if you find or try anything additional!

How lpw of a temp. Can this freezer reach..and and if only 0 degree could the thermostat temp control be changed out so it could reach les than 0 temperatures like negative 20 or so?

There are different models made for holding different products. Yours has a 1/3 hp compressor for above 20 degs. It may have 0 on the thermostat and may well pull down that far, but -20 would be out of it's reach. Where as it's sister model is made to freeze to below zero has a 3/4 hp compressor. Larger compressor for the lower temps.

Alarm is going off how do I stop it

The best temperature is the midpoint. Typically 3 or 4. The alarm will go off once the temperature goes down to the freezing point.

I just moved into a home with a kenmore chest freezer. This is a real dumb question, but which symbol means on. Should the circle be showing for "on" or should the line be showing for "on"?

Some freezer models feature a temperature
monitor that provides an audible
alarm. The temperature monitor alarm is
located near the temperature control

The alarm sounds if the temperature in
the freezer rises 10° F (12° C) or more
above normal for selected setting. Alarm
may sound if temperature control dial is
turned to a much colder setting or if a
large amount of unfrozen food is added at
one time. Alarm is controlled by a three
position switch

0 = OFF prevents alarm from sounding
when freezer is warm, such as during
initial start-up or defrosting.
• ✓ = TEST sounds alarm regardless of
temperature. Alarm system should be
tested at least once a month.
1 = ON is proper setting for normal
freezer use. Return switch to 1 after
defrosting.

Freezer switces off sporadically after periods of 20 to 10 days.

If this is a frost free refrigerator have the defrost timing unit checked out. It may well be sticking in the defrost position.

Fridge freezer

Check your settings for the temperature controls. Freezer may be set to warm (IE #1) set it mid point. Also set the refrigerator at mid point and go from there to adjust each to maintain the temperature balances.
