This is a normal function of any pump. When a motor gets too hot it has a thermal cut-off inside so it won't burn up the pump.
Once the motor has cooled down it will come back on.
Look around the motor to make sure it has plenty of ventilation. If it does and the motor keeps shutting down on you I would replace it or take it to a motor repair shop and get it looked at.
There will be something wrong with the motor and that point.

I PUT IN A 3SPEED FAN SWITCH I GIVE IT A PULL FOR THE 3 SPEEDS BUT I CAN'T TURN IT OFF HELP

Check your wiring and the diagram that come with the switch... You might have the Hot Wire (power wire... usually black in color) wired directly to the motor.

Normally the switch will have a common wired....which should be the hot wire...then it should have a wire for each speed. Double check your wiring and wiring diagram. I'm Sure It was just a small oversite.

THe power head on my canister stopped working

depending on what make ... the power head has one or two thermal switches insiide ... the first one detects when the motor gets too hot .. thats almost always caused by "not enough air flow to keep it cool" ... that switch will reset when the motor cools off ... if that thermal switch fails to work and the motor continues to get hot then a perminant thermal fuse trips ... that cant be reset and has to be replaced ... and thats not always easy to do . they are typically crimped or soldered in place within the motor windings .... usually the motor will be replaced on such units ...vacuum motors operate at enormous power levels .. they get very hot very quickly when air flow is cut off .. another posibility is the wires going inside the plug get broken from so mjuch flexing ... you can try pushing the wire into the plug to see if that brings it to life ,,, the wires sometimes break where they go into the motor also . some machines have a little reset button near the motor .. if you have that then push in for a couple of seconds .. it should click when reset .. ..

1991 Honda Civic Hatchback LXI - Broke HOT/COLD knob

The heater control cable may have broke. you'll have to go under the hood and find the heater control valve located on one of the heater hoses. The valve is mounted to the firewall and has the other end of the cable attached to an arm. Manualy open the valve by moving the arm toward the firewall untill it stops. The other issue is the blower motor only operating on low. Normally if the transistor fails the motor only operates on Hi, so lets look at the switch. Unplug the white 6-pin connector from the switch and with a jumper wire jump pins1&3 black wire & blue/black wire. This bypass the switch asuming there is 12volts on the blue/black wire the the fan motor will come on high. If it does the switch is bad. If it doesn't the blower motor is worn out or you have a bad ground. it is common that the brushes wear out in the motors over 150k. try this tap test. with the blower motor turned on try kicking the blower motor.this will cause the brushes in the motor to temporary make better contact untill you can get a new motor. -hope this helps

The handle for my Eureka 5893 AVZ was getting very hot. Finally, the wires around the switch melted and the vacuum will not work. What is wrong? Is the switch bad? Nothing else appears to be wrong.

usually if a connection gets hot enough to start melting it is usually a loose connection or high current. more than likely the switch is bad if you replace it with the same type of switch and it gets hot check the motor. make sure it is clean and isn't jammed

1997 ford taurus gl back passenger window stoped working except ever once in a wile whats wrong ?

The switch might be burnt or dirty, or the wires could have fused together from over-use and/or resistance when opening. This puts higher pressure on the window motor and causes wires and switches to get extremely hot and melt wires or burn the switch contacts, try cleaning the switch first, then if it's still not working open the door panel and trace the wire from the switch to the motor and from motor to control panel. Repair where neccesary.
