What is the Spark Plug order on Coil Pack on a 1995 Mitsubishi Montero LS 3.0 liter 24 valve? .

I recently replaced Head Gaskets, cleaning and sealing as I went. While I was away my curious daughter tore off the tape i wrote on to identify the reinstall Ignition wire placement on my coil pack. Any help would be great, as I have found 8 different posts online claiming to be the order...:(

As you standing in front of the engine looking at the coil pack from left to right....2-5-4-3-6-1. cylinders 1-3-5 are on the passenger side and 2-4-6 are on the drivers side.

I am not having luck with that order :( . It started up a few days ago with 524163, which is written on the front of my Coil Pack, but It was missing i believe. I drove it a bit that day, then sunday morning, No Start. I am going to pull off the front and recheck the Timing marks, and make sure it didnt slip a tooth, and will check that order you provided again. and that was for the 1995 Montero LS v6 3.0l 24 valve? Just double checking, I have gotten alot of the 12 valve engine version they also made that year.

I took my 97 Montero sport LS to the shop because I was told that my valve seals may be bad due to the smoke coming out of the tailpipe when i sit idle for a stop light or am in a drive thru. the shop says...

Because a head gasket are not valve seals. What color of smoke is coming out of your tail pipe? if it's burnt oil, have your valve seals replaced. Head gaskets seal the space between block and the cylinder head. I don't know why your head gasket was replaced when a shop told you your valve seals need to be replaced...makes no sense.

Firing order mitsubishi 3.5

Mitsubishi Montero 3.5 V-6n24 valve

Looking from the front of engine to the rear on the passenger side 1-3-5
Looking from the front of the engine to the rear on the drivers side 2-4-6

The engine has coil over plug with coils only on the drivers side. The spark is shared via spark plug cables to the plugs on the passenger side. So If you are replacing the spark plug cables:

#2 cyl.coil drivers side shares spark with #5 passenger side-
#4 coil drivers side shares spark with #1 passenger side-
#6 coil drivers side shares spark with #3 cylinder passenger side.

Low voltage to all bank 2 coils

Leaking spark plug well seals are a pretty common issue on the 2000-2002 LS's. Since that coil is near the firewall, it could be moisture due to the location of the cowl and possible lack of sealant on the coil covers, but that would be very intermittant as the heat of the head would boil off the water after driving post-rain or car washes. If you find oil on the coil(s), you will want to consider replacing the valve cover gaskets and at least that particular coil. You may find replacing the valve cover gaskets on the V8 to be easier than the thermostat. so if the voltage is low! check the coils out. they may need changing.
Remove the plastic engine cover that covers the valve covers and ignition coils by turning the four quick-disconnect fasteners, located in the corners of the cover, using a screwdriver. Lift the cover up and off the engine. Lay the cover aside. Remove the electrical connector from the coil by pinching the pocking tab with your thumb and index finger as you slide the connector off the coil. Remove the 7 mm retaining screw that attaches the coil to the valve cover. Lift the coil out of the valve cover by twisting the coil as you pull off the spark plug and valve cover.
Replace the spark plug at this time if you are performing a tune-up in addition to a coil replacement. this is for a 2001, but the procedures are the same. from 2000 to 2004. GOOD-DAY !

Cause of oil in sparkplug tube?

1.your valve cover's spark plug chamber seal is leaking. Which requires removing the valve covers and replacing the gaskets and seals. 2. Excessive oil spills on to the valve cover and ignition coils when adding oil.

**This excess oil on the plug boots can cause the coils to short and eventually fail.

Every now and then i smell oil burning when i use my heat but u never see it on tha ground or anywhere

Most likely an oil leak around the ignition coil packs in the valve covers. Remove the center covers on the valve covers and remove the coil packs and see if you have oil in the spark plug wells and on the coil pack boots. If so you will have to replace valve cover gaskets and the orings around the coil pack holes. You can also get the coil pack boots separately if the are oil saturated.

Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2003 3.0 needs head gaskets and valves replaced. How many of each are needed? And what type of valves are needed?

This I believe is a SOHC (12 valve) engine. If in fact new valves are required I would purchase rebuilt heads and use yours for cores (each head will cost @ $250) I have done this job on my 1990 montero over a weekend. Just get the right parts, keep it clean, take your time and be patient.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom
