How do i engage defrost

"Frost free" fridges automatically cycle in and out of defrost mode a couple (or more) times a day. There is no user intervention required. If your frost free fridge is building up frost, there's a good chance that the defrost circuit has developed a problem.

before digging into the defrost circuit: If frost is building up only on a door or door opening - this is an indication of a poor freezer door seal. Once the seal is repaired or replaced, the frost should stop building up. If the frost is throughout the inside the freezer - and the temperature of the fresh food compartment and eventually the freezer is climbing - then it's more involved than a door seal.

Typical problems areas of the defrost circuit are: the defrost terminator or sensor, defrost timer assembly and defrost heating element. While the circulating fan(s) is not part of the defrost circuit - it is usually visible and should be checked when inspecting defrost heaters and terminator components in the freezer. If the fan(s) has failed or is otherwise unable to spin, it should be replaced.

If you need more help, please provide the brand and model fridge you have. Good luck!

Their is frost and ice around the inside of the freezer, the rubber seal around the freezer door is split and broken could this be the cause of the frost and ice?

Being brief yes it is the cause of the frost. Door seals are not that expensive and in a matter of months the energy consumed to keep a unit cold can cost more than the cost of the door seal. (not labor... )

However.... if your unit is not defrosting properly you would have ice build up on the back wall / access panel of the unit.

If your ice build up is mainly on the cabinet face and wall.... the door seal is for sure causing the problem.

If you respond with a make AND complete model number I will do my best to locate a replacement part for you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Door was not sealed tightly for about a day resulting in some frost inside freezer. Door appears to be closed but door ajar light is still lite and alarm is still beeping. What do I need to check?

The door seal has a magnetic property to it. Until the freezer gets to a certain degree the magnetic porperties of the door seal dont react properly. Make sure the door seal is properly adjusted. If the door was left open it could have semi warped the door. This gets corrected when temp drops to correct temp. Reset freezer by unplugging and waiting for a few minutes. If problem persist contact appliance technician.

Frost build up shortly after defrosting it.

the frost buildup is entirely due to badly fitting seals, its also costing you a fortune to run it.A 5 sided cube is easily adjusted by using a spirit level and spacers under the feet/wheels(if fitted)once adjusted the lid should fit square.otherwise check the hinges for adjustment.
WHEN FITTED/INSTALLED CORRECTLY, THE LID SITS TIGHT ALL ROUND,NO AIR GAPS.....

Frost buildup inside freezer door at ice dispenser

you are still not getting a seal on that flap. It sounds as if it may be warped. THe reason the frost and ice is building up is due to the flap not sealing there isn't any other reson for your problem. Good luck on your repairs

FROST BUILDS UP IN ICE CHUTE FROM STORAGE BIN, AND BUILD-UP BLOCKS RELEASE OF CUBES....ALSO WATER LEAKAGE OUTSIDE LIKE WARM AIR IS COMING UP FROM OUTSIDE...

As a suggestion:
Check the trap door that opens and closes each time you obtain ice cubes. The water leakage may indicate a damaged seal allowing air from outside to enter. This will cause increased frosting and blockage.
The trap door may not be closing all the way or the magnetic seal around the freezer door may be damaged or not sealing completely.

You may also need to check the thermostat.
Temperature may be set too low. If you make an adjustment allow the unit to stabilize for 12 hours before attempting another change.

Good luck!

Frost free freezer is frosting up

Your door seal is not sealing properly . Check and use a hairdryer to soften the seal and the magnetic portion should seal itself against the cabinet .

Hi, Check and see if the gasket is leaking any where. Also check and see if the door to you ice dispenser is closing. Ice/frost only builds up around the door hen there is an air leak.
