How do I override a nonfunctioning remote for my Valor gas fireplace?

The remote control will not lower the flame - it is on high flame. How do I override the remote control? Do I shut off the main valves or what?

SOURCE: Need Instructions to use Fireplace Gas Logs

There should be a set of metal cards attached inside the fireplace.
First you should read everything there.

I know you have to first light the pilot light.
And then there should be a wall switch.

The problem I have currently is that it won't stay lit when the artificial logs are there.

SOURCE: while burning gas suddenly shuts off

More than likely it is the thermo couple.

It is a small tube at the end of a thin copper line.

It typically mounts in front of your pilot flame. The copper line runs back to you control.

When heated by the pilot it tells the control valve that there is a fire thus allowing the gas to flow to the burner. It is a safety feature to keep you from filling you house up with unburned gas.

When not functioning correctly it stops the gas to the burner.
You should be able to pick up a replacement at any big box or hardware store.
Some have different mounting styles. Best to remove the old one and take it with you.

SOURCE: Gas fireplace pilot flame won't stay lit.

Hi , you can try and pull the panel on the bottom of fireplace out and check the adapter in fireplace. Sometimes they go bad. When you open in also check to see if there is an adapter plugged in and a option to use the battery operated function. If this goes bad the pilot will not stay lit.

SOURCE: gas fireplace will not stay lit

there is a probe that is in the one of the flame... This once heated builds up enough pressure do to the heat to keep the shut/off valve open... (reason, if the flame went out the gas would continue to flow) this "thermocouple is replaceable !! contact me at homeprohandyman@verizon.net

Portable Heat Flame Electric Fireplace

Electric fireplaces are becoming more and more popular with today's homeowner's. The main advantage of the electric fireplace is generally portability, convenience, low initial cost is important. They also are a good choice when the looks are not as important as function.
Some electric fireplaces have simulated flames that give the look of traditional fireplaces. Another great option to include is a built-in fan to help distribute the heat more effectively. With some of these high end units it can be very hard to tell the difference between an electric fireplace and a wood burning stove. Along with this option may come a heatless setting the will give the look of flames but produce no heat. The remote control has also found its way to the fireplace market. There are many units that can be remotely controlled.
Electric fireplaces are generally cheaper than gas fireplaces. A good unit can be bought for about $500 (there are cheaper models available, but they tend to have fewer options and the flames are not as real looking). These fireplace units are fairly easy to install compared to a gas fireplaces or wood-burning stoves (both of which usually need flues to vent). If you can plug in an electric cord then this type of fireplace may be for you. The electric units are perfect for apartment buildings and condominiums. These places are not suitable for the traditional wood fireplace.
Just like other types of portable electric heaters, electric fireplaces will radiate heat very quickly extreme care must be taken to not have any combustibles too close to them.
You will see how an electric fireplace can transform any setting for you. The newest modern, advanced electric units have far more aesthetically appealing views. They might include fiber optic displays, or randomized lights designed to make the look of dancing flames.
Now whether you're living in a condo or apartment and can't have a real fireplace, the electric fireplace can be a great way to get some of the warmth and ambiance. Also remember that these units are very portable, so you can take them with you when it's time to move. Even though I have never been a big fan of electric fireplaces, because of the expense of their operation, I can see why they would be very popular with many apartment or condos owners.

Its to hot

Are the flames more than a couple of inches high? Do they have a lot of yellow coloring to them? Please be sure that the orifice for the fireplace is converted to the proper gas type. A common mistake is to have a natural gas orifice in a LP fireplace. The flames are way too high and the heat is very intense and this creates a very unsafe fire hazard situation. You may want to have a qualified technician come out and examine the fireplace for you.

My Valor fireplace won't turn off with the remote

Easy turn the gas cylinder close then its off,Or you could have a faulty control valve or thermo couple .Thermo couple is the small device looks like a probe to detect heat this is normally directly in the small pilot flame. The pilot flame if not burning will not open the control valve for the other burners to come on.If the other burners come on but do not go of when turned off. then need to check control valve.

Gas fireplace manuals

There are two things that control flame height gas volume and air volume. Some fireplaces have a flame control knob on the gas valvd to adjust flame height. Air volume is controlled by an air shutter usually located where the main gas orifice enters the burner. There is usually a small cover that will need to be removed to access the shutter. Closing the shutter will cause the flames to become taller and more yellow colored. Closing the shutter too far will cause sooting problems so great care should be taken in adjusting this shutter. As a rule, L.P. gas fireplaces do not have as high of a flame as natural gas unit do.
Hope this helps

I have a Vermont Castings gas fireplace and a honeywell remote control. Recently the control developed an issue where it will not shut the fireplace off. I have to do it manually. It still turns it on...

It could be that your transmitter is bad. You may want to try to re-sync the remote to the fireplace. Slide the Remote/Local switch on your valve from remote to local, then back to remote. Within 10 seconds press the flame button on your transmitter. This will establish a new frequency connection between your transmitter and valve. Good luck!

Valor Fireplace model 837 AN. It has a handles on upper left side that when depressed lights the burners. The burners are supposed to stay lit once the lever is released but it shuts all flame off...

Definitely, sounds like a problem with the Thermocouple or Thermopile (some of the Valor models use one or the other or both). But, before you jump the gun, be sure you hold the control valve knob in for at least one minuet before releasing it, when lighting the pilot. That way, the Thermocouple or Thermopile will have ample time to heat up.

Hope this helped you.
