Quckbooks 2003 upgrade to 2008

Upgraded from Quickbooks 2003 to 2008, cannot restore my back up of 2003, is there anything else I can do to restore it to 2008, my previous version copy is missing so I bought 2008, before I reinstalled my computer. The information is vital to my business.

Re: Quckbooks 2003 upgrade to 2008

You need to import your company file into Quickbooks 2006 first, then from there into 2008.

Will WIndows upgrade affect QB Basic Ed 2003?

I cant seem to find the manual for OS support. If windows XP is supported, the program works the same. For Vista and Win7 don't know really. Always when you're in doubt, makes the backup default.

Workstation not updating

The two quickbooks computers are not looking at the same data file. When you link 2 systems like you are describing, one holds the company file and the other accesses it on the first computers drive.

open Quickbooks on the main workstation and do control + 1 on the keyboard. This will open the product info window ( may also be accessed with F2). Look at the file location. It should say C:\....

Then do the same on the second system. If it also says C:\, it is looking at a file on it's own harddrive. It will need to be remapped to the network file location.

Once they are properly mapped, you will not need to restore a backup, as any changes in the file will be seen by both.

I've upgraded my QP Pro Contractor 2006 to my new computer Vista 64. I do not seem to be able to upload/restore companies from 06 to 09, it just will not take the data.

2006 was not designed for operating in Vista. If the data files are not upgrading to Version 2009, it usually indicates data damage in the file. It will probably need to be rebuilt in 2006, then updated.

Upgrading from Quickbooks Pro 2003 to Quickbooks 2009

I would not open up the company file in 2009. Open your 2003 Quickbooks, make a backup and then restore the back up in 2009. If you do run into problems you might want to upgrade into 2006 and then to 2009. (you will need to find someone who can do this for you if you don't have a 2006 version. I can help you with that if you need it

Problem reinstalling Quickbooks 2003 in XP Home

The newer versions of QuickBooks should be able to read the older versions files. You may get a message about updaing the data.
Many people have been reporting issues with Xp after service pack 3 came out, and was then pulled by Microsoft.
If your system did get the service pack 3 update, it may actually take a microsoft tech to undo the update successfully.

Reinstalling 2002 pro

Sorry to tell you that you will need to upgrade. Quickbooks is only compatable with Vista in 2008 and up. Quckbooks is not doing anything to resolve older issues.

Quickbooks Pro 2008 Payroll problem

I had to reinstall Quickbooks 2008 on a Windows installation that never had it on there before (virtual machines are handy) and now it works again. I am staying far away from letting it upgrade to latest; that's how my troubles started. I also doubt I will ever shell out money for a more recent version; I upgraded from 2005 to 2008 and it took away the ability to do automatically do IRS 941 forms if you don't pay for monthly payroll services. There has to be better accounting software that doesn't leave users stranded at year-end.

Quickbooks Pro-restoring a back up from a previous version 2005

If is any help - we have just had the same problem.......had version 5 (very old) of QB
changed computer to Vista and would not work so had to buy Pro 208 for Vista . We really had to get in touch with Quickbooks - they send you a free upgrade kit (disc which is Pro 2006 version (not a fuull version but enogh to get the data over) then you load that on your old machine transfer your data to that then copy that again - then load into Pro 2008 - worked fine for us - have come across a hiccup with VAT - but however I guess we are going to have to give in and phone them after the Bank holiday........apart from that everything was fine.

be brave and phone 'em - tech support was helpful.
