Black line (strip of pixels not working) horizontal across screen

If a whole line of pixels is dark, you've got a bad transistor in what's called a "Passive Matrix" display. For your future purchasing decisions, while an "Active Matrix" display costs a little more, it has individual transistors for each pixel, rather than one per row and column, so when a transistor goes bad, it only turns one pixel black rather than a whole row or column.

VIZIO P42hd PS42a plasma Picture has two vertical lines (one red/orange, one blue) going down the right-hand side of the screen. Lines are clearly visible

The panel is almost certainly bad. The only fix for this is to replace the whole panel which would cost more than the whole TV.

Line in pictures

It may be a hair or other nuisance on your sensor. Hand it over to your local repair shop to find out.
You have a better chance of fixing it if it's a line of dead pixels than a scratch. In the mean time, quick fix in an image editor.

Screen lines on MacBook.

Sounds like dropped pixels.  My first guess is the computer has been dropped on its corner, with the pixel dropout radiating diagonally from the corner.
My saint bernard sat on my g3 lombard, and I have vertical pixel dropout because of it, from the top of the screen to the bottom.
And no, it is not normal for a macbook to have lines across the screen.

Your whole problem my freind is dryed up capacitors. You should go, if you have the technical ability to replace these capacitors, to http://servicemanuals.net, download the schematic diagram, and start replacing the waveshaper capacitors in the vertical drive circuit.
