Hi, I have the similar s8000fd and I transfer pics from internal memory by taking out the sd card then connect to a spare usb socket on computer, then switch camera on.
To transfer pics from internal memory to sd card - leave sd card in, switch on camera (playback mode), press menu, select copy, select 'internal memory to sd card', 'select frame' or 'all frames'. It should say 'copy ok?' Press OK.
To reset the Camera, just press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object. The Reset button is located inside the jack cover. Please make sure that the Camera is turned ON while pressing the RESET button.
If the issue still persists, power reset the Camera and check if that helps.
To power reset the Camera, please remove the Battery Pack from the Camera and then press the POWER button for 15 seconds.
Then, reinsert the Battery Pack after 1 minute, then turn ON and check if that helps.
Have you tried accessing the pictures via a card reader connected to your PC. It is possible the card is damaged and you will not be able to recover your pics. But it is worth a try. If you do not have a card reader take the card to a camera shop and see if they can see and manipulate the pics to another card, then reformat the card and reinsert it to see if it then reads anmd writes.
plug into usb. Let charge for 2 hours. Press power button for two seconds to turn on/off Press button that looks like clock face to cycle between 1 5 15 minutes (small lcd will show) Then pre power button once. Green light shows is on, LCD shows how many pictures taken. Once you have taken pictures you have 15 hours to plug it into a pc and download them, shows up like a memory stick. After 15 hours it loses memory and pictures. If device is non-funtional, press recessed reset button in back. Then charge as above - Ron S
This worked for me. Take out battery and card. Wait a few minutes. Set camera in Auto (stil pic) mode. Replace card and battery, turn on. Select function, tab through all options returning to auto. Press function. This seems to be working, Let me know how this works for you. I found nothing on the Canon site. A sad commentary on the company.
Try re-initializing your camera. Menu --> Setup 1 --> Initialize "OK"
I hope that helps.
As for switching back to camera mode, that could be your selector switch. Mine is weird to, it takes pics fine but the selector switch is touchy and thinks i'm turning it when I'm not. It does this most often in Auto mode, probably because I use it most. You might try putting it in another mode before reviewing pics.
Are you sure the computer s 'seeing 'the camera this time.
USB can be a bit iffy.
Leave the camera plugged in but switched off.
Repbbit the computer and switch on camera
Check 'My computer' to see in there is a 'New drive' indicated.
