Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My Lexmark X2600 ran out of the black ink cartridge. I refilled the black ink cartridge but it refuses to recognize it and will not let me use it. Gives me an option to use the color one only or cancel. How can I force it to let me use the refilled cartridge. I have been refilling my ink cartridges for several years on HP and Dell without a problem, but can't on the Lexmark. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the Lexmark 2600 software, same problem. I will be glad to pay the $9.99 if you can give me a solution that will let me use the refilled cartridge. Ralph Louks

Hey....I solved the lexmark out of ink problem!!!HA!!! what you have to do if you want to refill these is "pop" off the top of the cartridge. It is not easy as it is glued down...using a small screwdriver preferably a small flat jewelers screw driver you can peel back the plastic that seperates the "lid" of the ink cartridge. you have to use a little force but you can get it off. Once you do this the cartridge will always read full!!!!!! just tape it or super glue it back on. You never have to take it off again! although I recomend cleaning the ink sponges inside every 3 refills. but this works great.....ha ha lexmark.....I got ya!!!!

Most likely the cartridge has a droplet counter inside and when it reaches a certain point it shuts down until you install a fresh one. In HP the printer will still work, even though it declares a cartridge empty. Sounds like Lexmark has thwarted the refillers this time!

I had my black ink cartridge refilled and I cannot get the printer software to recognize that it is no longer empty

Lexmark is a company with a simple model: sell the printers cheap and ink expensive. Many brand name cartridges have little sensors that trip when it's empty. This paired with software that tells cartridges to expire after they reach a certain amount of time.
The X2600 is especially made to sell ink. As I'm sure you know, she won't print unless she has a color cartridge.
If you paid someone to do this, they should have known #14 & #15 inks (the one's the x2600 takes) auto expire after a given amount of time. Because of this a newer cartridge may refill just fine and suddenly, once it passes the "expiration date" the cartridge just shuts down.
There are sophisticated hacks were you modify your print software and OS registry to ignore such things but you may be happier just buying the refill cartridge.
I know, it's unfair! Lexmark covered their bases on that one too. Like most companies, the terms you agreed to when you installed the printer and the manual include a commitment to only use Lexmark brand refills and not to refill cartridges as it "may damage your printer."
Here's a good article that addresses the issue in more detail.
Hope this helps!

I have an ink refill kit and have used it with a different printer, however now that I have the Lexmark x2600, I need to know if I can refill these cartridges, they are #14 and #15 cartridges

Hi there

I think you can not refill any Lexmark because lexmarks printers are made not to reset after refills sorry.

Empty ink

According to your problem it seems your cartridge has been damaged or choked so change your cartridge. Because some times when we use refilled cartridge, Ink goes dry and printer's sensor can not sense the ink.

How to refill a lexmark x2600 black ink cartridge?

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.

Let the ink settle in the cartridge for awhile. Make sure no ink is on the outside of the cartridge which adversely effects the signal to the printer.

Lexmark X2600 printer will not print in black and white

you may check your only black ink cartridge

longer time less using cause ink chanel(holes) dryer, could not print out even may take out the ink cartridge and put it's surface of bottom (just touch ) in the clean water 1 -2 Hrs, then set back and test it. still not fixed, you also need to do same thing if your print head is separated from your ink cartridge

Lexmark X2600 refill problem

many printer manufacturers put something (a chip?) in the circuit of the cartridge to prevent refilled ones from being recognized by the printer....when the "factory" cartridge is empty, the only way for the printer to see a full cartridge again is by using a "new" factory one, ...i guess it's the big name brands way of making sure you buy "their" ink and not use refulls.

Refilling lexmark cartridges x2500

There are a couple ways to trick it into accepting the cartridge. You can put a different one in, take it out and then put the filled one in. Or you can find a refill kit with instructions on what contacts to cover with tape and you have to do it 2 or 3 times to get the printer to reset. Sometimes you can shut off the computer and printer for 20 min and start it up again. Or you can get the sledge hammer and smash the stupid printer before it sucks up your life savings and vow never to buy from a company that profits from causing problems that they tell you can only be solved by using more of their overpriced solutions.
