Rexel 100X. Why does it work for 2 seconds in reverse only, then jams?

From your description, experience tells me there is something jamming the mechanism. If plastic or clay coated material has been shredded, there will be residue between the grinding wheels that will require use of a utility knife and a pick to remove bit by bit. You will have to apply power periodically to rotate the mechanism and give access to new areas to be cleaned.

The motor on my shredder does not run smoothly anymore. The motor is pulsing. This started when I think I feed the machine too much paper.

Turn off power and turn the shredder upside down. Check for paper shreds jammed in the shredder wheels. Remove all that remains. If the motor continues to pulse, you may have damaged the drive mechanism

The shredder developed a jam. I removed the bin and the top of the shredder. I removed the shredding mech. and removed the paper material. Reassembled the shredder. Shredder starts up when paper is...

Does the motor run??? even in reverse???
If the motor doeas not run at all it probably PCB. If the motor does run but the cutting mechanism does not turn then you probably have stripped/broken plastic gears... open and check,...contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.

My royal paper shredder is jammed. How do I unjam the shredder?

Normally try to run it in reverse while pulling the paper back out to assist the motor. If it won't even run in reverse then you will have to take it apart to manually clear the jam.

The motor on my shredder will only run in reverse

You need to remove the top section, make sure it's unplugged, and use a tweezers or very narrow needlenose pliers, and pluck out any paper chunks, and use canned air to blow out the paper dust. Reverse only means the chopper thinks there is paper jammed inside and will only run in reverse to clear the jam.

Shredder will not start when paper is inserted. switch is on auto. This happened after a long session of shredding

Two possible problems;
  1. Teeth underneath lid are jammed; sometimes (especially after a long session) although the papers go through, debris builds up and can get caught in the teeth; to clear unplug and with tweezers or a tina flathead screwdriver, pull out shreds of paper still caught
  2. Motor is overheated; once cool, try it again (move switch to reverse to see if motor is still working). If motor is working, see Step 1 for a jam; some jams can be cleared by running it in reverse. Royal doesn't recommend "long" shredding sessions. My unit recommends sessions of 20 pages or less. If you try to overwork the shredder, it will overheat and in some cases, fry the motor.
I hope this helps answer your problem. Best of luck!

ROYAL RL170MX Shredder won't shred

Did you ever put shredder oil onto the cutting blades?????
The blades can clog with paper dust and then it can't shred as many papges as it should or even jam completely...you should occasionally shred a sheet of paper with shredder oil poured onto the sheet.

Well, despite the manufacters warning label I choose to take the shredder apart and found that one of the plastic gears was broken. Hence the motor runs, but the blades do not turn. The thing I didn't understand, the there are metal gears and plasic gears...I can only imagine that the plastic gears at one point or another are going to give. I would suggest not to void the manufacters warrenty, take the shredder back, and get one that is built a little stronger. Hope that helps.
