How do I adjust the flame in my gas oven

You have to be careful when adjusting the flame because you can cause carbon monoxide issues. There are two adjustments. the orifice hood and the air shutter. the orifice hood when turned will adjust the flame amount and the air shutter will adjust the burning of the gas. the hood will be on the line feeding the burner usually on them safety valve and should be a 1/2 inch nut. The air shutter is the door like opening on the burner tube itself. Your flame should be a nice blue cone without any yellow and should not blow and walk off the burner.

New kenmore gas range 790.7433 converted to lp and oven flames are way too high and produce lots of soot...how fix?

Do the rangetop burners act OK, Brenda? It's just the oven that's causing a problem?

Go back to the oven burner, right where you installed the new orifice. That orifice should fit inside an air mixture tube, probably stainless steel, leading to the burner itself. Right where the orifice fits into it will be some means of adjusting the air mixture - a sliding window of some sort, whether flat or round. You'll need to loosen the screw holding it in place (DO NOT remove the screw, only loosen it) and turn it so the air opening is larger. Right now you're getting too "rich" a mixture, too much propane & not enough air. Before you close it all up, try the oven again - see if your adjustment worked correctly. If not, adjust it again - this is a trial-and-error process, and it's different for every different altitude and climate.

At some setting, you'll get a nice blue flame with very little orange in it. If you live in a very high humidity area, you'll have much more orange color than people who live where it's very dry, but the flame should at least be MOSTLY blue, and should never be sooty.

It sounds like during the conversion process a step or two may have been missed.

The gas orifice for the main oven burner is most likely to large (was not converted to LP), or the air shutter on the burner was not adjusted. I would not use the oven with the flames that way.

There should be instructions with the installation instructions on how to convert the oven, basically on most oven burners the orifice is screwed down (tightened) until the flame is the right size, then the air shutter on the burner is adjusted for a blue flame.

Let me know if you have questions

THE FLAME IS YELLOW AND PUT SUIT ON MY POTS HOW DO I CORRECT

The spuds need adjustment on the top burner gas valves. The oven safety valve needs adjustment too. Get a good fitting wrench and tighten down the spuds till the yellow goes away. Adjust the air shutters as needed.

Just installed a new oven gas burner, do I need to adjust gas/air mixture? It is operating on propane

Most cases yes. It is very simple, close the air shutter to 90% close, you will see yellow flame, now open the air shutter until the yellow flame disappear, then open the air shutter a little bit more now you are done. Have fun.

Viking range creating a lot of soot?

This is a definate sign of improper gas/air mixture. The flame needs to be even and blue.
Make sure the orifice is clean. Usually the burner (oven) will have a "Door" or "Shutter" type adjustment where you can turn it and add or choke off air. This is the primary air supply. The secondary air supply is usually supplied by louvers or vents close to the burner area.

My new gas stove (propane) is releasing black soothe when lit. All the pots are covered in this black powdery like substance. Whats the problem and how can i fix it. It's really costing me a lot to clean...

There is usually a "shutter door" adjustment at the end of the burner to control the amount of air that is mixed with the gas. If you just did a conversion the air fuel mixture likely needs adjustment. You want a blue flame with faint yellow tips or optimal adjustment. Too little air causes soot and too much air is noisy and wastes fuel. Remove the burner (as for cleaning) and open the shutter door on it, replace, and retry until the correct burn is achieved. I don't have direct answer for the Kenmore. Did you try using the model number in Google or Ask? If you don't get a hit the call Sears Service and request a manual.

Magic Chef LP range produces soot whenever oven is on.

The vent (shutter) allowing air to mix with the gas has shut. Access the burner with the oven off, of course, and look for the shutter (a sliding 'door'). It usually has one screw holding it n place and an elongated slot to permit adjustment. It may also turn. Since your burner is producing soot, you need to open the shutter more. Loosen the screw and slide the shutter open more. Turn the oven on and look for a nice blue flame, and one that doesn't run too far over the burner. Keeping in mind that everything there will be hot when the burner is on, and also for a long time after it is off, you can use a long-bladed screwdriver to push the shutter back and forth to get the flame you are looking for. If the screw is loose, a gentle tap will be enough. When you are see that optimum blue flame and you are satisfied, let the oven cool off for an hour or so, and final tighten the screw--making sure you haven't moved the shutter much when tightening. If this doesn't work you have a bigger problem and need to call a service person. Your local gas company sometimes will direct you to a person.

If you oven temp is off by +- 50 degrees, thermostat needed to be change. to check and adjust the oven thermostat usually we place the oven thermometer in the center of the oven, run the oven at 350 degrees for minimum 30 minutes and check the oven temperature, It should be +- 25 degrees, if it needed adjusting, there is the adjusting slot screw in the center of the thermostat stem, to adjusting it ( do not turn thermostat stem during adjusting ), turn adjusting screw counter clockwise to raise the the temp, clockwise to lower the temp, turn it a little at a time and wait 15-30 minutes before do the next adjustment until the temp match with the oven knob. To adjust the oven burner air and gas mixture, first turn the air shutter close, you will see yellow flame, then open the shutter until the yellow flame disappear and them open it a little more, now you are done. For the oven uneven cooking? you may have a bad oven burner tube, during operation some of the flame may be lift off, disappear or flame being uneven, you can check it with the kick panels off to see the flame, if these are the case, you needed to change the oven burner tube,

Burner flame adjustment

there are two considerations for burner height. 1) the gas adjustment screw on the knob and 2) the gas-air mixture to the burner. establish a flame and adjust the screw for a standing flame at the burner. adjust the gas-air ratio orifice so that the flame has no yellow tips.
