The ECM sends a GND signal to the Fuel Pump relay to switch it ON. When 'jumping' relays, there is a risk that you might feed +12V to Gnd switch line, in this case the ECM line. If left too long, this would blow the diodes in the ECM. Try using another ECM. Try following the ignition circuit from the ignition coil back to the ECM. One of the wires connected to coil should have +12v when IGN on. Sparking only happens when ECM sends GND pulses to the coil. If ECM is OK, check camshaft position sensor, which is also usually referred to by the ECM for ignition firing.

First trace the fuel pump fuse to the battery and, make sure you have power to the fuse you may need to replace the old wire from the battery to the fuse, if the power goes to the system relay but, doesn't come back out; replace the bad relay; still not working? next:
Connect a long 18 gauge wire between the fuel pump + or, positive (hot) connector and, the battery momentarily and, listen for the fuel pump motor to "buzz" If it does remove the wire and follow the hot wire up to the hidden relay; jump the relay, if it buzzes the fuel pump; replace the relay, if jumping the relay didn't work and the fuel pump still does not "buzz" check the pump ground: connect a wire between a bare, unpainted area on the frame and, the - negative (ground) fuel pump connector start up the fuel pump, normally if it now buzzes replace the ground wire or, scrape the place where the ground wire attaches to the frame and, re install the ground screw.

Help... I have a 92 350 chevy truck that will not start. I have replace the ECM, coil, ignition mod., the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. When i turn th Ignition switch on th fuel pump doesnt come on....


You said you jumped the wires for the pump? Was that at the pump relay?
If you have a voltmeter or test light, keep the jumper wire in place and check for voltage at the fuel tank connector. The pump wire will be gray. With relay out and jumpered there, you should have battery voltage at the fuel tank connector. The key doesn't even have to be on, cause the relay has voltage to it at all times. If you jumpered it right (terminals 87 and 30 on the relay), and no voltage at the tank connector, you have a broken fuel wire somewhere between the relay and the fuel tank.
If you do have voltage at the tank, but the pump still won't work, only two possibilities, a bad pump or the ground for the pump is lost. Check the pump ground first.

If relay worked when placed in another vehicle you must have a wiring problem. trace wires from fuse block to relay checking for corrosion or short.

under the hood in the black main relay and fuse box.look for fuel pump relay.the relays most likely bad. or a loose wire to the fuel pump.has it been wrecked? have to ask yourself alot of questions when you bypass the pump straight to battery and it works. start with simplelest 1st. check main fuse relay and fuse panel 1st.then go to wiring harness that goes to the pump. thank you for choosing fixya.com.

Hi,
the fuel pump relay performs a slightly different function than the horn relay. If there is a wiring circuit printed on the outside of the relay's you will be able to see the difference.

AS you have "jumped" the fuel pump relay and the vehicle started, then the relay is not providing sufficent consistent power to the fuel pump. It is possible to check the relay using a digital multimeter, that will indicate which side of the relay is failing.

The most expedient method to address the potential and factual problems which you state, is to hook up a hand held :reader" to the car and observe the information given. That will give you a factual baseline to start with.

how did you jump the fuel pump relay, by bypassing the relay or by applying power to contact that closes the relay? If you bypassed the relay completely you need to b ench test the relay you can do this easily by using any 12v dc power source. If you tested the fuel pump relay by applying power to the relay and the pump run and developed pressure. I suspect a wiring or ground issue. Good luck

It sounds like you don't have sufficient fuel.
Do you hear the fuel pump turned on when you put the key on?
If it is not, need to check the fuel pump relay.
Jump wire at the fuel pump relay to to turn it on to see if Fuel pump is working
Need to check if the fuel delivered to fuel distributor in spec.
Jump wire your relay 60s to check how much gas delivered to the fuel distributor, by disconnecting the gas input at fuel distributor and catching fuel in a calibrated glass container. The gas quantity ml divided by 60 sec to have a flow ml/s. If this is not meeting spec then change the fuel pump. Good luck.

Mazda truck will crank but won't start up. tried jumping it but it didn't work


sounds like you have a fuel pump issue. first check the fuel pump relay. it's in the junction box under the hood. replace the fuel pump relay with the a/c clutch relay or heater relay and try starting the vehicle if the vehicle starts it was the relay if it doesn't check to see if there is power going to the fuel pump if there is your fuel pump needs replacing if there isn't then check the wire harness for a break in the wire. please rate
