SOURCE: notebook heating problem(urgent help)

You bios versions start at f.03,f.04,f.05, f.07, f.08,,,

The date and version that you posted does not match and bios version for your model.

The only reason you update a bios is if it falls under the problems
listed for the new bios to correct.

Say your lap came with f.05, the only reason you would update to f.07 is because you had a graphic error, that the new update fixed.

The link below is the page for your drivers, if you look at bios,it shows the newest,if you click on version, you will see all the ones
that where made.

You should double check to make sure that you have the right bios version.

Its too risky for a user to open the laptop, access the mainboard and reset to its factory setting..

Very dangerous for the hardware too..

My suggestion is to bring your laptop to a credible technician to open your laptop, reset the cmos to its factory, and return the cover properly..

Hope you understand.

Much appreciated if you rate this help.. thanks

How can i boot an hp compaq 6910p computer on startup from cd rom

that is good question
first the PC must be set to boot on CD. in BIOS
see page in BIOS called boot and order.
set CD first.
step2: find a CD that does boot, non state by you.
here is how to make one for linux., (to test hdd) or windows installer CD?
http://www.pcdied.com/linux.html

now insert cd to the tray , and push eject to make it go in (button)
and not boot the PC ,cold boot it
and last hammer the space bar to boot the CD.
the space bar is most easy key to hammer,(anykey works)
that key is the El Torito rule on CD boots. or it fails to boot.

Can I override the bios at startup so that it will recognize a new hard drive - for linux?

There should be no need to play around with your bios settings. Linux will install on a brand new hard drive as the sole operating system, or on an existing hard drive alongside Windows without any problem.

If you haven't already got a Linux distro, have a look at
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Download whichever version of Ubuntu you prefer (LTS- the long term support version is recommended).

When the .iso file containing the operating system had downloaded, burn it onto a dvd, or install it on a usb drive.

Insert the dvd into the drive and restart or switch off/switch on the computer. The dvd will then kick in and offer you the choice of trying Ubuntu without installing, or a full install.

If you're using a new, empty hard drive just follow the on screen instructions and Ubuntu will install as the sole operating system.

If you already have Windows on your hard drive Ubuntu will give you the choice of either erasing Windows or installing Ubuntu alongside Windows. It's your choice.

Installing Ubuntu alongside Windows creates a dual boot hard drive. At start up you just choose which OS to use - Windows or Ubuntu. If creating this dual-boot system Ubuntu puts a (Linux) boot loader into the Windows OS so that Linux is recognised.

If you save the Ubuntu file to a usb drive you then have to change the bios settings so that your computer uses USB as the first boot device. Then restart your computer so that it boots in from your usb .. and Ubuntu will begin installing.

Whichever you use - dvd or usb - during the installation process Ubuntu will ask you how many GB of hard drive space it should use? You do not need to physically partition the hard drive. Linux will do it for you.

If it's a desktop PC you are using with Windows on the first hard drive and are fitting a second hard drive to install Linux on, or have installed Linux on the second hard drive .. and find that Linux doesn't appear at start up, it's because there's no Linux boot loader in Windows.

I quit using Windows many years ago.

I have an old HP Laptop (6910P) and tried installing Ubuntu from a USB (w ISO image) but the install is not working.

I did that too and the way I got it in was to burn the usb to a disc , then run the disc . the installer wizard took over and I had both win 7 and ubantu on the pc

I am using linux mint 8 and now trying to install windows 7 but it shows error in installation having error code as 0x80000100

Hi,

The Grub bootloader that Linux uses may be conflicting with the install program for Windows.
I suggest formatting the partition you had Ubuntu installed on if your intent is to replace it.
This should make the partition available to Windows 7.

If you wanting to dual boot then i'm sorry you can't at the moment because of compatibility issues between wubi/mint4win and grub2, Linux Mint 8 comes without a Windows installer. The development team is working on the issue and new ISOs will be published when it is resolved.

Keep your eye on the Mint 8 website for the latest ISO with the windows installer included.

Regards.

NO OS OF HP COMPAQ

If your computer does not have an operating system then you will need to purchase one. You can still buy Windows XP but with Windows 7 coming out very soon it would be wiser to pick up a copy of Vista with a free upgrade coupon to Windows 7. Or you can run a linux o/s if you a famaliar with linux. Ubuntu I believe is a free linux o/s that you can download to a flashdrive and install to your pc. Hope these tips help.
