Question about Dryers

Whirlpool dryer will not start even after changing the motor

Ok I have a issue that is stumping me. I had a repairman look at my 2001 Whirlpool dryer and he said the motor relay was bad and the motor needed to be replaced. So this morning I went to the parts store and got a motor and fanwheel and replaced it myself. Hooked everything back up and nada. I had already checked the thermal fuse and it tested good. Basically when I open the dryer door the light comes on and when I close it the light goes off. When I set the timer and push the start button nothing happens I can hear the timer clicking away. Any other ideas to check. It is model # LEB6400LW0.

Sorry it is 220v and I have checked the breaker box and have actually flipped the breaker twice just to make sure that it was not tripped.

Ok ready for this I just changed the thermal fuse and the timer switch because this is irritating and still no signs of life. Oh failed to mention that when I open the door the drum light comes on and when I close it I can see from the rear that the drum light is off. Anyone have any ideas? Any way to jump the start button manually?

I did grab a voltage meter and tested the door switch and it is testing good. I even tested the starter button and it test good. I am thinking that it has to be either the thermostat cut off or the thermostat internal bias. Otherwise really the only thing left to change is the little motherboard like thing. So any additional things to try just let me know and I will give it a shot. Man this thing has me stumped

Ok since I have replaced just about everything else on this dryer and it is still not working. I replaced the door switch even though it tested good and still nada. This evening after I replaced the door switch I got curious and the cabling that goes to the motor I hooked the voltage meter to it to the red and to the black wires that go to it. I plugged my voltage meter to it and then plugged in the dryer, nada then I grabbed the door switch and closed it as if the door were closed on the dryer. Turned the dial to timed dry and then pressed start it did not show anything on the voltage meter. Not a jump nada nothing it would seem to me that when I pressed the start button it should have least "completed the circuit" and shot a jolt of power at least but nope nothing. Anyone have any ideas I would love to hear them.

It actually ended up being a bum replacement motor. Thanks for all your help!

Do you have 220v to the outlet, to the dryer? Have you checked the wiring in the control panel?

If you do not have a meter to trouble shoot with you can bypass the switch by taking off the wires and clipping them together . UNPLUG the cord first. Make sure they are not touching anything and plug it in and shut the door. If it starts it is the door switch. If it does not you have some investigating to do.

Set for a timed dry. While pushing the start button(hold it in) wiggle the timer knob around.(This sometimes will show a bad or failing timer contact) If there is nothing happening then you are going to have to follow the voltage path from the plug through the thermostats and timer to the motor with a meter. though there is power supply to the unit but don't start you have to check the door switch. if switch is ok and still unit don't start check the starting capacitor if equipped. replace if bad. if unit won't start even with a good capacitor and good door switch , then check the motor switch. if motor switch is bad replace the whole motor. switch and motor are sold together.thanks.

Whirlpool gas dryer does not heat, Motor works drum to go around; timer seems to work also. Repair person said it was the controls on the motor; replaced motor but still have no heat. Cleaned out vent...

I do believe the repair man hosed you on the motor. Most of my experience is with electric dryers but I can try to shed some light on the subject. I would test the safety thermostat if it is open you can temporally short the leads together to see if it heats up. It is about $70.00 so you do not want to just swap it out, do not run for a long period of time if you short the leads out (Fire is Bad). Next check the Sensor on the burner unit which turns on the Electronic gas valve ($200.00 Ouch) or it could be a clog it the orifice. Do you smell Gas by the burner unit? Next is the Igniter which you should hear click. A volt meter is recommended to test the components and an Ohm Meter to test the Safety Thermostat. I wonder if your repairman even took his out of the truck.

Whirlpool LER5644A No heat and motor wont Turn

Replace the dryer wires.
Put your meter leads into the 4&5 slots.
Make sure the door switch is closed or jumpered.
Push the start button.
If you read no voltage the issue is with the wiring, the timer, or a relay.

Dryer will not start

Go to the breaker panel and make sure the neutral is making good contact. Especially check for corrosion. If it is good there, look for other connections between breaker panel and dryer. It seem to me you have a bad neutral somewhere.
