Looking at my manual , it tells me you have a software user guide on the cd-rom ....this is where you will find the answer.

You could be having feed issues. I would suggest you have a technician clean the paper path sometime the rollers get a little shiney and don't pickup the paper like they should. A certified technician will also replace any rollers if needed and perform a maintenance cleaning.

well if you got a software disk from brother when you bought the printer if that has a scaning program o it install the disc on your computer and open it, put the paper on the scanner and view the advanced settings on the scan program if it has any otherwise search the settings and find the extension or format that it saves in and change it to what you prefer
